The Official Men's Magazine Thread

That editorial with Pietro is honestly so bad, I can't believe that it ever saw the light of day.

He’s not a good model, so I didn’t expect much but some shirtless pics. But according to the captions, it’s a 3D shoot using 126 cameras, so the outcome is really beyond me.

LOL! The Pietro cover, I thought it was supposed to be a homage to Stallone...
And the edit is a cringefest and reeks of pretentiousness. Belongs in French GQ.

it's quite incredible that they were able to make such a beautiful model so pedestrian looking in that editorial...

whoever gave Pietro that extremely parted hair look was not his friend...

Time for GQ China to show how these others to build a proper cover story edit! The image sequence could be better, but the images alone are great. Mad about the cover as well.
Thanks for translating the credits, MDNA.

And since Men's Preppy is a hair and beauty magazine for Japanese men, there's also a very detailed tutorial on how to create an Afro, complete with 70s Striped font. Found this both intriguing and funny in a sense.

^ Hopefully nobody will scream ''culture appropriation'' and ''sensitiveness'' and ''black face / black hair'' at this editorial ans indeed this magazine is a beauty magazine like Allure if you will. I actually find this spread very interesting and I love the fact that people who are not POC can also enjoy showing a very cool hairstyle no matter where they come from.

Oh God, that thought never even crossed my mind. I was just amazed at how detailed it was.
This could be the reason why magazine culture is so strong in Asian countries. They actually serve a tangible purpose. If I were their target market I would want to hold onto a print magazine like this because it shows clear instructions that could be useful for years to come. The men's market, in general, need to be dumbed down like this.

The only problem is that Japan is, still, a country with visible racism. Many black people cannot live in Japan because not so many company wants to hire them even though they were born and raised in US or Europe.

^^^ Yes, and some Japanese are still racist towards Chinese and Koreans...

Although that’s really not a fair assessment of a country in general.

Of course racism exists in Japan— as it does in every country. I know many Black individuals that have worked in Japan and they’ve enjoyed/enjoying the country/culture/people. I have Black friends who have/had Japanese partners. So as much as you’re pointing out that racism exists in Japan, racism exists everywhere: The ME is not going to be welcoming to (for example) Asians who are looking for blue-collar work/labour; If a small population of Asian migrate workers are searching for work in the Democratic Republic of Congo, do you do think they will not experience racism? I was offered a position in the UEA earlier in my career: As a POC, they were all welcoming and very hospitable. But would they be so welcoming if I were just a migrate worker looking for minimum-wage labor…??? Of course not.

(BTW, if a Japanese individual is racist towards Black individuals, wouldn’t it be wonderful if they changed their mind with something as simple as appreciating an afro…??? Change has to start with something— and a fashion accoutrement, a hairstyle, could very well be that small gesture that brings people together rather than divide them further apart.)
