The B&W one is definitely similar, but the one thing that bothers me about those LBD's from Balenciaga is that, for the next few years anyway, anytime a designer sends a fitted black dress with a slit down a runway people are gonna scream "knockoff".

^yeah i thought of that too. but i have to say this doesn't make me think anything less of donna. i like that most new york designers are inspired by high fashion trends and looks and try to translate it into more wearable and often times more affordable pieces.

plus, this is a pre-fall collection so i'm not expecting anything ground breaking here.

I actually don't mind because, in the case of the first belted draped dress, I like the Donna Karan one better. The draping looks more controlled.

I've always wondered...do you think the models recognize many of the similarities we do? I mean, a lot of them walk in the same shows - for example, Karmen Pedaru wearing those Donna Karan Pre-Fall pieces also walked in Balenciaga FW 08...do you think she'd look at the black and white dress she's wearing and think..."hey, Hanne Gaby wore a dress that looked just like this one at the FW 08 Balenciaga show..."

Many of the clothes posted are only similar because the cut, shape, or draping of the outfit is so popular and widely-used.

Just because two designers both created white vests or slouchy pants doesn't mean either is copying from the other.

Many people argued that her Spring 09' collection has similarities to Versace Spring 08' too.

But I think draping is her signature style, that has to be Donna's original

I'm turning the tables with this one! Usually this thread is swamped with outfits looking like Balenciaga, but how about a few Balenciaga outfits that look like other designer pieces? They're not the best look-a-likes, but they just reminded me of these other pieces....
