more from nme:

After the aforementioned song Doherty donned a poncho, suggesting he was heading off stage. However, McConnell strapped on a guitar and the pair played 'Beg, Steal Or Borrow' together.

Pete Doherty played:

'What Katy Did'
'Music When The Lights Go Out'
'East Of Eden'
'Albion'
'Time For Heroes'
'What A Waster'
'Can't Stand Me Now'
'La Belle Et La Bette'
'Beg, Steal Or Borrow'

he played some of the best libertines songs... god i need videos.

seems like he sang can't stand me now too...

i love the fact that although babyshambles cancelled their appearance pete was there anyway

this sounds so lovely... seems like he went by himself...
i feel so sad that he performed la belle all alone.
he is just simply amazing.

Potty Pete makes it to Glastonbury

DESPITE rumours of him going awol - PETE DOHERTY took to his Glasto headline slot like a duck to water.
Wondering onstage like a character out of Oliver Twist, the BABYSHAMBLES frontman all of a sudden became incredibly endearing.
Opening with LIBERTINES track What Katie Did Next, the ex-heroin addict proved a mighty fine musician as he encouraged everyone to wave their lighters around to his tingly tangly tones.
A tortured soul maybe, but Pete kept it real and did not disappoint by playing spot on.
There was a charm to him this evening that hinted towards why a certain MISS MOSS fell for him.
He even showcased his sense of humour, dedicating song Albion to all the QPR fans in the crowd, before shouting: "So basically just me! And 'CARLOS' BARAT."
Pete was top notch, performing to a dedicated following who finally believe he cares more about the music than the dr*gs.

Where and when: the Park stage, Friday, midnight
Dress code:
From our vantage point at the back of the field, we can confirm that there was some kind of straw trilby action. Beyond that, hard to say beyond the fact Pete's clothes were - as usual - tight and black.

In a nutshell: Having cancelled earlier in the day, the appearance of Pete Doherty is a surprise. "It wasn't to do with management or the record company - I just thought I was playing tomorrow night," the poetic pin cushion (copyright: the Daily Star) reveals to groans from the crowd. But there's nothing groan-worthy about the show: it's a poignant yet sturdy acoustic ramble through Pete's greatest hits. "What hits?" I hear you cry, but as What a Waster, Can't Stand Me Now, Up the Bracket and - his finest moment - Albion echo around the field, sung back to him by a spellbound crowd, it's confirmation that to a generation who came of age this decade, Pete Doherty is every bit as significant as Morrissey. Witty, squalid and totally authentic, history will judge him kindly.

Pete Doherty was left to go it alone tonight.
Hours after his band Babyshambles decided to skip their Friday night appearance at Britain's Glastonbury Festival, the troubled rocker took the stage alone at midnight, putting to rest reports that Doherty was ready to pack it in in 2008.
The unexpected acoustic solo performance occurred a night after Babyshambles canceled their Thursday show at Norway's Hove Festival.
The band's website, however, still offers a list of upcoming concert dates, restarting July 4 at the Rock Werchter festival in Belgium, so it's unclear whether Doherty's really as tired of it all as the Norwegian news site VG Nett is reporting.
Taking over Babyshambles' headlining spot on Glastonbury's Park Stage were Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand, who briefly announced on their website Thursday: "Friday night. Glastonbury. Park Stage. 10pm. x x x x."
Doherty, meanwhile, played a nine-song set, including two Libertines songs—"What Katy Did" and "Music When the Lights Go Out—before dedicating Babyshambles' "Albion" to former fellow Libertine Carl Barât, who was playing his first solo show at Glastonbury this year.
The Libertines freed themselves of each other's company in 2004.
Before the festival kicked off, Barât told Britain's Daily Star that he didn't want to make too much of him and Doherty being in the same place at the same time.
"I'd like to check out Pete's set if it doesn't clash with mine, but at the same time I don't feel well enough to deal with all the attention that might come to me," he said. "If the fans spotted me, they would probably want us to get up on stage."
The somehow-still-rockin' Doherty recently served 29 days in jail for probation violation after he used unspecified drugs and missed a meeting with his probation officer when he was supposed to be on his best behavior after pleading guilty to possession of cannabis, ketamine, crack cocaine and heroin in October.

what i'd give to have been there  sounds like a beautiful evening.

wow the Sun praising Pete Doherty?!...i'm scared.

yeah, firstly i read it and then i checked the source. then i read it again, especially the "he cares more about the music than the dr*gs" part. and then i checked the source again.

^and before anyone thinks his voice sounds weird, that's coco sumner (sting's daughter) singing, not pete.

God, this is too much for me on a hungover Sunday afternoon. I almost cried watching the video from Glastonbury.

We’ve just heard some news so delicious, we’re literally salivating whist we’re typing this. Apparently Pete Doherty is in talks to write an explosive tell-all tale about his relationship with hoover-nosed Kate Moss…
Pete is rumoured to be in negotiations with a major publishers on a six-figure deal to write a book which will lay bare the secrets of one of the most publicised celebrity relationships of recent years.
Supposedly Doherty has already enlisted the help of ex-drug addict and biographer Sean Boru to help write the sordid tale. Boru recently revealed:
“The whole premise of the book is Pete talking about Kate Moss and the sex and drugs and rock’n’roll lifestyle they shared.”
“Pete sees this as his big opportunity to say what really happened with Kate. He has been ripped off plenty of times, so this book is a great chance for him to enjoy a big pay day.”
We’re sure you’ll agree it’s no exaggeration when we say that this book could be the most amazing piece of literature this world has EVER seen. Seriously, we can’t actually wait.

Aweee he misses Kate?! :( I miss them together too...I thought they would be Irina's legs too but they look a bit too thick to be hers...

I hope he doesn't do the book...but I think it's just a rumour...
