Record company reps for Pete Doherty sent PEOPLE an apologetic statement Wednesday in an attempt to shame the Babyshambles singer into sobriety. It was just yesterday that reports of the reformed junkie missing drugs and photos of him allegedly using again flooded the internet and news papers.

The letter reads:
"Peter Doherty would like to apologize to the medical staff, fans and well-wishers who have helped and encouraged his progress in fighting his addiction to heroin. His ongoing rehabilitation was a source of such pride to him that Peter and those closest to him thought that he was close to winning his personal battle with the drug. However, Peter sadly relapsed last week and is now looking to check himself back into a rehab clinic so that he can try to continue the hitherto excellent attempts he had made to break free of heroin. He realizes that he has not only let himself down but has let down those who trusted and encouraged his efforts and he is filled with remorse for what he describes today as, 'a stupid, stupid action for which I feel only shame.'"

There are many causes for murders and violence. As long as he does only damage himself,I think it´s not necessary to send him to prison. How I said,I am not a fan oh him and I really don´t like his actions, but the whole discussion in the newspapers is so overrated,if you think about all the horrors that happens in our world.Let him alone and write about other, more important things:doh:.

^ But he isn't only hurting himself is what I am saying....

And Hilde, it isn't just the tabloids that glorify his behaviour. Fans do, other bands do (hello what about the freak in the others?), people in general do. Just as a *** end hanging off someone's lips seem to make them cool (don't ask me why) this behavious gets rid of certain connotations rock bands don't need. I mean nobody wants to be Belle & Sebastian do they? You don't get little chavs worshipping Jarvis Cocker do you?

Well, I said 'celebrate' not glorify. But yes of course, I get your point. And unfortunately that's the way the world has become (or always has been I believe), someone is almost always more interesting when they have or has had a troubled personal life. It's the sad, misunderstood icon thing that appeals to people, and as much as I (might) disagree with them being ideolised, it has been that way since forever. That said, I do not want Pete to become Kurt Cobain or Jimi hendrix or Janis Joplin. I would rather have him be Sebastian. Or Belle.

And Sienna (a bit off topic), funny that you mention Jarvis Cocker. He once said this about our Doherty (from Big Issue). "I don't give a f**k whether he's out of his mind or not. I don't like taking drugs, but if people wanna take drugs, they'll do 'em. It's he's making music that people want to listen to, that's what matters. (...) whereas in, say the Rolling Stones' drug bust, all these years ago, the press argued that taking drugs was a personal freedom. Fat chance of that happening these days."

Also, I think there are lots of little chavs worshipping Jarvis as well, to be honest, but that's another discussion. ^_^

Not to go too far into illegal TFS territory but you don't think people who use
stuff that is on the black market (be in pirated DVDs or worse) are hurting other people?!?!? Come on! Do you have any ideas how these gangs operate? You don't think they are hurting the people they love. Geesh! Some really idealised opinions on this board.

Anyway old, or new, I knew what he did, but I had never SEEN it. And I am reeling a little.

maybe it is an 'idealised opinion'
because it is true, i have certain beliefs and ideals about freedoms, liberties, etc

of course illegal things, anything on the black market, DOES profit terrible gangs and violence and is generally bad

but thats the same thing (of course on a lower scale) as you KNOW that those jeans you bought from china have contributed to practically slave labour, you KNOW that the barn laid eggs you buy from the supermarket contribute to battery hens and animal cruelty, you KNOW when you buy imported stuff youre hurting your own countries industry, you KNOW when you buy those cheap dvds from bali they're pirated, you KNOW when you download music youre ruining the music industry etc etc.

its a massive moral debate, and yes, you ARE probably a better person than all of us if you are a vegan, hemp wearing, clean and ****-free person who shops ethically and knows everything about all the products you buy and the effect they have on the world.

but most people arent and thats the way life is. a lot of people, as long as they arent physically hurting someone else with their fists, arent really doing anything so wrong.

everyone buys into bad industrys. and that should be changed, but putting someone in jail for consuming something for themselves, that only directly hurts themselves, is not the way to do it. it shouldnt be a crime to have freedom over yourself. and thats where the law needs reforming, **** industrys need to be possibly legalised, regulated, etc. its not the pete dohertys of the world who are at fault, the same way its not the little local chicken farmer, to use an analogy, its the supermarkets, its big business, its the go vernment. things are bigger scale.

this may seem off topic
but im just saying that the way the SUN and the media hound pete doherty is a bit bad... obviously hes no role model for little kids, and all that, but i dont think things are so black and white.

I agree. And although he is a celebrity and not a real person on the streets doesn't mean his problems are less real, and I don't think it's easier for someone who is famous to consider who he is hurting when in a weak moment, than for anyone else. It seems a bit like some people thinks his addiction just isn't as serious as anyone else's.

As for The Sun it seems like the limit of what can be accepted in a tabloid newspaper is slowly pushed further and further. I am sure there will be rules regulating this in England one day, as in the rest of the world.

I feel so bad for him. He cannot seem to stop. He needs to be sent to rehab for a very long time, so he can recover. If not, he will die. People who are this deep into this sort of stuff don't just "win" their battles in a couple months, they have to devote large amounts of time to recovery. And, whoever sent in that cell phone video is an idiot. Why did they sit there & record that?

And, no he should not go to prison/jail, he will just continue to do drugs in there. I feel so bad for him, because you know in a couple years he WILL become a kurt cobain/jim morrison/etc type, and that's really sad, because the people around him should have helped him.

Anyway, back on topic I wonder how this will effect the engagement...are they even still engaged?

He's an argument for harm reduction. That's all I can say, I guess.

Yes,he´s supposed to have a new girlfriend from Munich. There are photos of them excisting and she said to a popular german newspaper, that she doesn´t want to talk about their relationship at the moment;).
Hmmm, the only bad thing is that she´s called "a hotter version of Kate Moss".I hate it that all newspapers have nothing else to do than comparing other good-looking girls with Kate Moss and trying to find better versions of her:doh:.Noone is like Kate Moss and it´s difficult to find a person who looks like her or is even more beautiful:rolleyes:.

agreed. and i don't judge him, i don't know what was going on in his life when he first tried drugs, i don't know how depressed or vulnerable he was. i just know that it's very very hard to get off drugs because when you're addicted your body asks for them and you feel really bad when you're trying to keep yourself clean. and the more emotional the person is the harder it gets, and pete seems to be very emotional, he became like a victim of his addiction (as most of people do) and it probably has been hard for him, he's just split up with kate moss, he's got engaged to his friend and now he's already dating someone else... there is a moment when you don't think anymore if you're contributing to the black market or not... i mean, i don't know, i just don't blame him, i don't think i can judge him as many people have been doing.

true.

No,it wasn´t;).He apologized that it was a stupid action of him:rolleyes:.

i thought the video was fake too until he admitted it

Me too. I was devastated. I even yelled at my mom when she said she had seen a video of him taking d**** again. And I yelled at my innocent TV.

This gossip is making me crazy. I don't even recognize myself. :D:lol:
