The Price Is Wrong!

As we all know, we're paying for the name and to be honest, I think a lot of people buy things BECAUSE they are expensive and less attainable to the average joe!! We all know jeans don't cost $400 to make. It's pretty much a joke really!

For example, if 'Superfine' jeans were $30, and everyone was wearing them, would you still wear them? I wouldn't because they would be in reach of every average joe on the streets.
It's terrible I know, but if some designers start bringing their prices down, their image is then somewhat more cheap looking, more attainable, and less desirable for those seeking high end/ luxury/ exclusive goods. I think it's an ego thing to a lot of people as well.

Soo to answer the initial question, i think the most obvious overpriced designer item is always a plain tshirt or pair of jeans. I saw a plain tshirt with a small printed label last week for US$300. It probably cost the designer $10 max to be made.

A lot of pieces come to my mind like those C&C tanks. They're just normal tanks and cost 39$ and up.

True, in the last Vogue (march?) there's a simple spagetti-strap neongreen retailing for 39 pounds, around 80 $.

I know! Isn't that disgusting!? I saw a short sleeve polo in Wallpaper magazine a while back that I liked, but $800?!?!:shock: No way!

hahahah, i know. I don't even find the cardi pretty, and 1000 $ for VISCOSE-POLYESTER is sick. It's not cashmere, fine, but i mean, they could have made it in wool or cotton or some "natural" material at least. Hermes using polyester is disgusting in the first place.

Outside of nouveau-riche idiots, who the hell actually spends money on this kind of clothing? I know lots of very well off people that would never dare to spend $1,000 on such a piece of crap. I never would.

Is some of this clothing simply designed and marketed at such an exorbitant level simply because it makes the designer look more exclusive, and therefore more in demand? I don't think the managers at Hermes actually sat down and thought of this cardigan as something anyone would really buy, really, all the cardigan would do is inflate Hermes's image furthermore. These managers, are, for the most part, too intelligent to actually expect to sell the cardigan.

Any other ideas?

^ That makes sense, and yes, I doubt even the rich would pay those prices for it.

Maybe someone will buy it in a sale though :P

If I'm going to pay top-dollar for something...it better be worth it. I'm not going to spend $500 on a stupid t-shirt unless it was hand-stitched on the moon made out of the softest fibers found only in space or something...

John Galliano Menswear and those silly LV plastic bags from the s/s 2007 show (they're over $1000 a pop!)
