I hear drew barrymore may be the cover star of april us vogue.
I saw the pierces last night, lead singer catherine is engaged to albert stroke. she wore a really big glittery diamond ring. I thought she & her sister were excellent, from song writing to singing to stage poise. i am not much into their genre of alt-country-folk, but given thatchoice of genre, they do it excellently. its a nice change from the typical garage rock or new wave rehash you usually see in nyc clubs.
I also spoke to albert a bit, he is definitely the nicest stroke.
I actually thought opening band au revoir simone was even better, 3 tall & beautiful modelesque-prep school- hipster- fashion girls who play 3 80s type synth keyboards. their song writing is kind of like the poppier side of devo or other keys based new wave. their singing, usually 1 lead with 1 or 2 harmonies/contrast vocals, was really cool, a lot more sophisticated than their sing-song-y pop songs seem on the surface. i guess you could say its closest to stereolab, but the more poppy, sing song steroeolab side, not the indulgent or spacey experimentation that sometimes makes STLab lose focus.
I would recommend au revoir simone highly, and if you like alt-country-folk you will love the Pierces they do it well & look fantastic.
