The Strokes

More info on the artwork:
The artwork, pictured, is by the late Belgian artist Guy Pouppez, who died in 1993.

The band's spokesperson told NME that the New Yorkers came across the piece via the graphic designer who works on their artwork.

Pouppez was not a famous painter, while the piece is thought to date from the ’60s or ’70s.

I haven't listen to the Strokes in a while now, but 2 weeks ago my dude & me went to Dave & Busters and some kid in the arcade was playing Reptilia on Guitar Hero. We walked by and I automatically was brought back to 2005 when I used to go dancing every weekend. The indie clubs I've been to, every single one of them, used to play this song. Such good times!

"Our lives are changing lanes, you ran me off the rooooad..." so good!!

They're on the cover of this week's NME.

Well, it’s The Strokes. Finally. The band’s back together, the new album’s finished, and we were given the first listen and the first interview with the boys. We sat down with them in New York and quizzed them on the rumours of fall-outs and fights, and found the reunited Strokes in bullish form...

wow  it's very very different from Under Cover, a whole lot darker and almost sinister
sounding. feels like something Julian would've done from Phrazes. i like it, but i think that has
to do with me not hearing the whole album yet

It is very different indeed but I don't like it, it's not something I would like to hear from The Strokes.
I hope the album overall will be good.

I didn't like the song either. It's not bad but I still need some time to accept the path they seem to be taking now. It sounds a lot more like Julian's solo work and The Strokes' themselves. I hope the album doesn't sound like this.

^ It definitely sounds like Julian's solo album, perhaps this is one of the songs he wrote? I think this album is a tricky thing for them. If they don't do something new they're going to receive criticism and be accused of not evolving their sound, but if they stray too far they're going to obviously lose a lot of fans and receive criticism anyway. As long as their change isn't too drastic, like in the case of MGMT, than I'll be happy. I'm just so ready to hear it! Pre-ordered the vinyl and iTunes.

You're right, a lot of people would say Room on Fire was way too much like Is This It, when it's a great record itself, and it was the opposite with First Impressions of Earth, they decided to do something different and got some mixed reviews, the bad ones claimed they had changed... But you made me think of something now, You're so Right was definitely written by Julian, and as they said before, Angles is an album from 5 different people so it's expected the songs will sound differently one from the other.

i think the song itself is nice... it sounds a bit too julian for a strokes record, but at the same time i think it would be too strokes for a julian record.
i do hope the rest of the album will be different though. not entirely different from that song, but, like ckgirlbr said, with songs that are different one from the other. that may be interesting.

just watched sofia coppola's somewhere by the way. i had totally forgotten i'll try anything once was part of the soundtrack! it was so happy to hear it.

^Agreed, I don't like insulting the Strokes because they're lovely and Is This It is one of my favourite albums ever. This song just isn't as exciting or raw as their best stuff.

LOL julian may be one of my favorite voices in the world, but fabrizio has become my favorite stroke!

They sounded amazing, I felt like I time traveled, does Julian age at all?!

Loved this one Life Is Simple In The Moonlight even more, has the familar sound. Super stoking for the album, it's going to be wonderful, I am convinced.
