may i ask some of the people who aren't crazy about The Strokes: is it the clothes or do you just generally not like them?

I think they're rip-offs all around. Neither their clothes nor their music are the least bit original, in my opinion. But that's not to say it's any different with any other current pop band. :innocent:

yeah i guess that's the most common reason that people have for not liking them. besides them being from rich families. i of course couldn't disagree any more, because yeah they are most certainly influenced by other bands (Velvet Underground, Television, The Cars, right?) but i don't see them as a rip-off, but as as a development in a slightly different, but still different direction. are you sure that you don't just hate cuz they're beautiful? ok never mind the last line

Especially early Cure, a la "Seventeen Seconds".

I think not. The Strokes look like that thanks to all the people who did that look decades ago. And regardless of that fact, I don't think they're a major influence in the look currently anyway. It's everywhere, but not thanks to them.

you give too much credit to the oldies.

I'm not a fan of their music, but I think they're adorable! I love their style, it's kickin'.

Yeah they are a bit of a rip off but everyone is in some way or another, but they do have real talent they play their own music, sing live and Julian wrote every song on their albums which i think i amazing

Most people do not let their "influences" show so blatantly. And the rest of what you mentioned should be a standard thing. This is not exceptional.

Yeah, but a lot of bands and singers seem to get help, or let other do it completely. What's amazing is that Julian, alone (although, Albert did help him pen "Alone, Together") writes every note of music and lyric. He knows how to play all the instruments the band uses, and he's an incredible singer with an amazing stage presence. He is brilliant.

i can't think of one good band that has not been influenced by someone else. it's all about recycling and making it better.

yes, they're over-exposed and I'm kinda sick of them. But I still dance to their albums and they're undeniably cute!
