The Strokes

Not one of the best pictures I've seen of Nick, but he still looks cute. I prefer this one because it's just so damn cute.

I didn't say otherwise. Reread my last post. Unlike a lot of other bands, they aren't doing much of anything new to the sounds they're ripping off. It's pretty much cut and paste from a bunch of obvious sources. Like plagiarizing from a bunch of different books without changing the words very much.

.. i said that Julian the lead singer had talent that i thought was exceptional.. i find your post quite saddening and actually quite offensive no one ever mentioned anything about pop singers who are manufactured in to an image dont play their own music and actually just cant sing and cant see how this can compare!

i just dont know what you expect when some one writes their own songs , music and can play a varaition of different insturments and has charisma. you dont need to bag me, im interested in your point of view , but please dont imply that i have low standards as if its a crime not everyone can like the same thing

I guess we just have a different definition of exceptional.

Exceptional: 1) surpassing what is common or usual or expected 2) far beyond what is usual in magnitude or degree; "the young Mozart's prodigious talents"

All I've been trying to say is there are tons of bands like them. This doesn't make them a bad band, but there's nothing original about them. Which, again, doesn't necessarily make them bad. I just prefer a band who can provide a new take on what they're feeding on. And I'm not saying liking the Strokes means having low standards; my reply was to no such comment. I am just against the idea of lowering standards for popular music overall, because I feel that most of it is already completely talentless on behalf of the "artist" and "manufactured into an image", as you say.

Yes, the Strokes can play instruments and write songs (what a novel concept for a band), but they're manufactured into an image just like every other pop band. And I'm stressing the term "pop" because there's not usually a problem with any of this in other music (i.e. stuff that isn't on the radio, MTV, etc....basically being manufactured and fed to the mass market).

Why is it that just because I disagree with you, you say I'm just doing it for attention (from people on an internet forum )? Whatever...I'm just saying what I honestly feel. I'm very opinionated about music. I don't follow anyone else's musical opinion other than my own.

i enjoy the pics more than the albums...... they're alright, i never was a huge fan, but i dont hate them.

I don't see what the big deal is. If AlexN doesn't like them, then he doesn't like them. Everyone has different musical tastes. I'm somewhat aghast when people say they don't like The Strokes, but I don't think they're trying to be different or anything.
