The Strokes

I'm glad you like the pics and interview.Yes, Julian has a very cool voice, both while singing and speaking. He also has a black ...leather jacket kind of like Fab's, and I know Albert has one in brown. I don't think I've ever seen Nick or Nikolai in ...leather. And I have obviously looked at a few too many pictures of The Strokes. On that note, here's some more.

The dude in between Fab and Albert is Ryan, and the guy on the end is Matt.

Thanks for the pics Nycgirl84! Hadn't seen those before. Love the last one ^_^ .

These are funny quotes by each member of the band:

______________________________________________

-Fab

Fab on England:
“In England, it’s like Christmas everyday! You wake up in the morning and get all excited; you run downstairs to open your presents. Only the presents are people, and the gift is luvvv.”
(At this bubbling suggestion and beautiful words Julian concludes “you’re full of sh*t, Fab.”)

Fab recalling dreamily the first “music thing” the group had together:
“I remember when Nick, Julian and I first played- or had a music thing-together. I was jamming with Nick and a guy called Danny, and Julian came to visit. He just stayed and listened, didn’t even play, but it was a rare old time. He was eating tacos, I believe.”

Fab on rock and roll fantasies to fulfill:
"Yeah, trashing Columbia hotel rooms. [Laughs] Just kidding." (he mentions people expecting them to do sh*t like that earlier on in the interview)
"Exploring our homosexual tendencies?" (Followed by much sniggering and mumbling)

Fab on their cool names:
"I guess we just had cool parents who chose our names," chimes Fab, "My mom was like (mock Italian accent) I think this boy will be a rocking roll star!"

Fab on what they’re music would back in a movie or a dog food commerical:
“Sometimes I think of dog commercials." (to which Nick corrects) "They don't have commercials for dogs." (Fab?) "I mean dog food commercials." (To which Nick laughs) "Like 'Hey, why don't you buy a Jack Russell Terrier?'. Dog food commercials. You're weird."

On the last time he cried:
“When Nick’s girlfriend dumped him” (To which Nick sings “Don’t cry for me Fabrizio”)

Fab on Swedish music:
“I LOVE Abba, man (laughs), haha, no I’m kidding” (He then continues a rendition of “Dancing Queen” at the top of his lungs)

On playing shows:
"Every time we play I feel like kissing everyone in the crowd and going home and partying with them," (oh, feel free, please do!) Moretti beams. "There's just a vibe in the room, an energy."

-Nick

Nick on the possibility of their music being a soundtrack to a movie:
"A p*rno movie. Definitely a p*rno movie. Maybe a gay p*rno movie. Or Jurassic Park." (How fascinating is this guys thought process? p*rn to Jurassic Park in one sentence…)

Nick on what he wants to get out of being a “rock and roll star”:
"All sorts of things. Playing to bigger crowds, getting more fans and making good records. Being a bigger and better rock'n'roll band. Do you expect me to say like, 'I wanna get a blow job from three girls at once...'. [Laughs hysterically] 'I wanna get a big bag of coke and a big bag of heroin and mix it all together and snort it right up...' That's what I wanna do! [Laughs] And quote me on that..."

Nick on dancing (mistaking “down to things” for dancing in the question are they ambitious about getting down to things?)
'I'm ambitious about dancing,' (in a voice that makes you receive anything he says with an element of doubt.) Well, er, what kind of dancing can you do, Nick? (that’s the interviewer)
'I do jazz, I do tap… I do…'
(At this Fab splutters disbelievingly 'This is so not true!').

Nick sarcastically on their live set:
'You could compare it to 'Riverdance'; it has the same sort of intensity and magic… You know how it just seems like there's magic onstage when Michael Flatley takes to the stage? Well, it's the same thing with us… Michael Flatley is actually a huge influence on the band.'

Nick on how they came to being signed by Geoff Travis:
"We were playing so f*cking loud, he heard us all the way across the ocean! Actually, our manager sent him a copy”

Nick on his pals:
“when i'm not playing, i hang out with these guys; they're my best friends -- i got no one else, really.” (aw, bless)

Nick on the media liking good cheekbones:
'Yeah! I mean, I had facial reconstruction,' (He’s lying) 'I said, 'Make me look like Cher!' (he then sings loudly “do you believe in life after love”…)

-Albert

Albert on being signed to both “majorino’s” RCA and indie Rough Trade:
"It's like being a bisexual!" Being with RCA is like being a bisexual? "Yeah, you get the best of both worlds."

Albert on his influences:
“I got influenced by a bunch of weird people – Buddy Holly, I really like the way George Harrison plays leads,
Elliot Easton from The Cars… I really hate naming names, but I’d rather name names than have people say we sound like Television.”

On getting serious about guitar playing through butt whipping:
“It’s cool now, but I got kicked in the *** a lot by the others. You know: “You gotta practice more, you’re not good enough yet…” and that hurt, man, but healthy criticism was what made this band tight.”

On the ludicrous suggestion of Solo albums:
“You know what my solo album would be like? It would sound just like The Strokes , because it would be, “Hey Julian! Do you want to sing on my album? Fab, would you play drums? Nikolai, is bass ok? Nick, how about playing some gutiar?” ‘Cos I don’t know any other musicans.”

Albert on describing a “sometimes insecure and sometimes cocky” Julian:
“Inse-c*ck!”

Albert on dealing with hype:
"I masterbate to the magazine covers we're on" (Julian agrees, "yeah. and he jerks off to all our interviews")

Albert on why the album is doing so well:
"I think it's because Nick is hot"

-Julian

To a disgruntled executive in the audience during a song:
“Don’t you f*cking look at your watch while I’m singing!”

In reply to an interviewer enquiring about the “stroking” qualities of the name The Strokes:
"what? you mean like... masturbation?" asks julian looking all innocent, like he is daring us to say the word. er...yeah, or is that more indicative of your interviewers mindset?
"nah, it's got nothing to do with that... well... it has, but, no."

Julian on the suggestion of taking each other and their manager onto a deserted island, suggesting someone opt out so they could:
"take something more useful like a girl... or our f*cking instruments".
(Don’t worry, Nick solves this problem by suggesting tropical instruments like bamboo and coconuts)

Julian on Sir Mixalot Prime, a robot given to them by an interviewer (they then try to stimulate sex with it on Nikolai...those crazy kids):
"I had a dream last night and that Robot... a Robot just like that destroyed the world..."

Julian on his music:
"I wanted to make the music sound like it was from 30 years ago, but being heard now. With everything that entails. Do you understand? Like music from the future heard now..."

Julian on the lyric “IN spaceships they won’t understand” from Last Nite:
"and what it means is that in the future, when we're all flying to work in f*cking space ships, it'll still be the same old sh*t. Like, no one will understand why you have to just do it." (Fab then leaps up to hug Julian and says; "That's f*cking beautiful man!")

Julian on the live set:
'Our set's like milk and cookies…'
Really?
'Nah,' he finishes, 'It's more like a shot of tequila… (Smiles)'

On their Album:
"We hope it rocks your balls off" (cue wry smile)

-Nikolai

Nikolai on what people do at american gigs…or sports events…it gets confusing:
'They just sit down, have a beer, have a hot dog,'
(Hot dogs at a gig? – interviewer)
'Oh, sorry - I thought you meant at a game or a sports-event,' laughs off the bassist, embarrassed at his reply.

Nikolai on having girls on tour:
"They distract you, they make you think of other things than music. You can have girlfriends at home, but on tour it creates a weird atmosphere."

On why the Strokes are so damn good:
"We watched Spinal Tap and learned a lot," he smiles. "It's important to understand each person in the band to make sure we can continue to do what we're doing."

Nikolai on the resemblence of the Album cover to Spinal Taps "Smell the Glove":
"There's no actual picture of Smell The Glove. But yeah, it's funny. People saw girl and glove and freaked out."

I love those quotes. I'd read most of them before on some Web site, but a few of those I haven't. They're very entertaining. Thanks.

OMG! Nick is hilarious! Those quotes are... hahaha, sorry I can't stop laughing. Michael Flatley... oh yeah.

Why can't Nick be my boyfriend?

there's a new home video at the dotcom.
just Jules carring some boards from across the road to their office.
and that song Albert wrote for In Transit is playing in the background.
it's kinda nice though.

I watched it about 15 minutes ago. Looks like he's lost some weight, but he also hurt his arm.
