I loved it the instant I heard it. It's adorable and fuzzy-- like the lovely lovechild of a-ha's "Take On Me" and La Roux's "Tigerlilly", but still all Julian.
Today I was listening to a local radio show, they were saying that One Way Trigger is a rip-off of a song by Maná (a latin band) so I went searching and gotta say it´s true, even the singer cadences are too close to call it coincidence... of course it can be coincidence but then again, Albert spends time in Argentina... he could´ve heard the song cause Maná is very famous in Latin America. What do you guys think?
^ actually there is a remix version. I find it hilarious. The strokes are lost for me, the first 3 albums were the best but after julian's solo album i think they lost their spark.
LOL I knew that Maná song but I didn't realize it until a friend of mine told me she thought the songs sounded alike... for me it stills sounds more like Brazilian tecnobrega, things like Banda Uó (with the differente that they are self-parodic and the Strokes aren't ). I hope the single has less synthesizers. Even the song they recorded with Ke$ha was more Strokes than this one...
I like the new song! Didn't really listen to their last album, but I'm looking forward to this one. The Strokes are inspired by a lot of bands and I don't think that means they're completely unoriginal... they take a fews bits here and there from other artists (ex: Tom Petty), put a modern twist to whatever they're borrowing and keep their great distinctive sound.
When I watched it I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't something "new", but at the same time I'm happy to see all these images of them together, and happy it's not a bad video!
