I have just started to get back into swimming laps as part of my exercise routine after a few years away from it.

The downside is that the chlorine is playing havoc with my colored, dark brown hair. It never seems to wash away completely, even after shampooing, and my color is turning brassy. I do wear a swimcap but it dosen't keep your hair from getting wet. I have started using Ultra Swim shampoo. It does help but still dosen't completely remove the chlorine.
I was wondering if anyone has any tips to get chlorine out of your hair and keep it from ruining the color.

I've had good luck with Aveda's "Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser". Maybe alternate that with Bumble and bumble's "cool brunettes" shampoo?

Ketchup. :ninja: Takes the yellow tinge out of the hair.

yes, this! or anything tomato-based. it's so cheap and effective. When I was a teenager, my hair was bleach-blonde and I got a green tinge after going swimming and was incredibly horrified. I had to fix it IMMEDIATELY and used pasta sauce which, while leaving a bunch of tomato chunks and basil in my hair, removed all of that nasty green hue.

I would suggest a can of tomato soup instead!

^are you being sarcastic? it's not something to roll your eyes at because something tomato-based really will remove chlorine better than anything you spend lots of $$$$$ on.

it might be due to the acidity of the tomatoes? in which case i guess some vinegar might help too?

seems like that would make sense since the chlorine ion is definitely alkaline in water, but my chemistry skills a bit (read: very) weak so I wouldn't speculate beyond that!
