Tom Ford F/W 2021.22 New York

I thought Tom has already moved on from his Gucci era. It was fun in the 90s early 2000 but now it's just look dated and trying too hard to be that "femme fatale". And the styling (Carine?) Is not helping.

When the Chairman of CFDA present a collection like this no wonder NYFW is a mess right now.

Alléluia! No sequined column dress!!

I actually love this!
While I regret the choice of a simple lookbook and I aknowledge the fact that he shared the numerous difficulties he has designing this collection and the previous one, I like the offering.

The SS one felt very « i need to present something to feed my stores » and this one at least has a POV and a strong direction.

I love the attitude!
The are a lot of great pieces!
The opening coat is fabulous, the blouse in the 2nd look is to die for, the tuxedo minidress is simple but great, the two black minidresses with the sleeves are wonderful and I love all the tailoring, the camisoles and even the bags and earrings are great. The ruchés tops are great! And even the trapeze oversized sweater ( I hope it’s in cashmere) is fabulous!

With Tom Ford, there’s always this tension between vulgarity and sophistication and the problem is really to find the right balance. You can introduce underwear for women but not on your collection lookbook. And I think the denim turns the looks more into Dsquared than Tom Ford.

I think a black tuxedo pant or something in Jacquard elevates a look!

After all this time, we have to réalise. It’s not about Gucci or YSL, it’s about Tom Ford. The biggest problem with him has been to make collections that feels relevant to women today in the world...Not people in LA and Hollywood. He can’t compete with his glorious past, he doesn’t have to compete with his past.
Tom Ford is an American brand . And this is great American sportswear with it touches of boredom...
That’s the kind of clothes I see myself buying. I haven’t worn a miniskirt in quite some time but this suddenly makes me want to buy one!

I love this. It’s a nice answer to YSL’s Vaccarello.

if only he had explored more around the lace/ see-through pieces... they’re beautiful! and the silhouettes are so chic and sexy!
feels a little messy as there’s no apparent congruency with it all which is a shame. also, those random pairs of bleached jeans are criminal.

^^^agree with the miniskirts, bring them back!

It has a couple silhouettes that are chic and attractive but the rest is very Halston...for JC Penney

Tom wrote something about this collection, interesting...

…The leading Gigli-esque velvety cocoon coat with long bare legs in simple pumps looked somewhat promising. Even the a-line-esque hoody and the minis with poet’s sleeves are swishy Burt Bacharach sexiness. Unfortunately, that stupid “loop de loop”(LOOL) mess further reeking with Florida-trailer park stripper bleach denim just infects the swish offering in the worst cheapness. This has current-era Carine’s desperately cheap, gaudiness all over it. Without Terry around to capture the naught haughty mood, Tom’s just too rich to bring any freshness to this trashiness. (LMAO @the “loop de loop” salmon monstrosity of a dress that looks like it was snatched from Christopher John Rogers' leftovers. Not just a mess, but a cheap mess.)

Hopefully this rushed fashion-diarrhea is a sign that he’s too busy working on his next film.
