Tennis With Toni
If history is to be believed,
Toni Garrn is the world’s next major supermodel. The Hamburg native (and a Cancer) is the new face of Calvin Klein, a coveted title only few models in history including
Kate Moss and
Natalia Vodianova have had an exclusive claim to. But the seventeen year-old stunner has more than modeling on her mind. She’s an avid tennis fanatic, and picks up a racquet every chance she gets!
You’re now officially the face of Calvin Klein. How did you react when you found out?
I was very surprised because I didn’t even know I was being considered for that campaign! But of course I was very happy and excited. I think I went shopping after the good news was about a month later, because the real first thing I did was come back home and go to school. Not really an exciting set of celebrations!
What’s it like to work with Francisco?
It’s great! He is such a lovely person and lots of fun to work with. It is exciting to be able to watch his creative process. When I was at CK trying on dresses for an event, there was one that I fell in love with. When I told Francisco he had it put in a bag for me to keep.
So what’s your everyday life like in Germany?
First of all, I am a student. When I am not in school I go out with friends or play tennis. That is, unless I get a call telling me I have to fly to Paris or New York for an editorial. But I’m not recognized when I go out, at least not in Hamburg
When did you start playing tennis and why?
I started when we lived in Greece. I was about 8 years old, and I mostly began playing because my mother and my brother played. I guess I wanted to be included in all of the fun. A big part of the game is that I get to enjoy it with friends and family.
What are the biggest differences between tennis and modeling?
I would say the biggest difference is that while modeling you have to look your best, which isn’t the case while playing tennis. I would hate for someone to take my picture right after a tennis match! I normally wear a t-shirt with shorts.
What are your strengths and weaknesses on the court?
My strength is my backhand but my forehand is my big weakness. That is how it has been since I started playing! It is usually the opposite for most people.
Do you follow any big players at the moment?
Tennis is a big hobby of mine but I enjoy the physical act of playing it rather than following tournaments or the professional players. My other hobbies are playing piano and dancing. Of course, seeing my friends has become a very big priority since that has become increasingly difficult due to my newly hectic schedule.
What are your ultimate ambitions for both tennis and modeling?
For tennis I hope to keep on playing no matter where I am and getting a better forehand! For modeling I hope to get to see as many different and interesting places as possible, meeting lots of wonderful people and of course getting many nice jobs!
