Most Overpriced Designer?

at that price they better pluck the chicken right in front of me , turn it into a gourmet fried chicken, cut every strand of feather and individually reconstruct and sew them into my skin.
At that price, it should be a nearly extinct rarissime bird and not a chicken.
Even real tortoise shell (turtle shell actually) glasses aren’t that expensive.
They are 10 to 30k.

if someday AV makes HC for YSL.
On my dead body. They are not allowed to do HC, and maybe if the Kering's exec were nicer, they might have gotten the rights (it's at the discretion of the Foundation), but they aren't, and AV has not the skills to be a couturier. They (Kering) were this close to get the rights with Hedi. But Hedi left and Pierre passed.
Maybe later, with someone else as CD, someone else as execs, and someone else as owner of the fashion brand.

so interesting...
So you mean Pierre Bergé's last husband, Madison Cox, can authorise or deny the rights to the Saint Laurent Haute Couture ?

At this point, is it a question of person? I don’t see why Madison Cox would give the rights to Kering anyway.
Do they have an heir already in case something happens?

Would it be hilarious if L’Oreal buys YSL and Madison gives the rights to the Meyers.

I was wondering the same about Alaia…As Carla is getting older too. Maybe Farida should be the heiress of the fondation.

He owns Saint Laurent Couture. So yes.
The same way the fondation owns the archives of Mr Saint Laurent.

Exactly like that, it's split, Madison owns the Couture and the Foundation the archives.
Pierre and Yves were so pissed with De Sole and Pinault, they made it extra complicated to made Couture out of reach of them.

The intensity I feel comes from me not being able to afford it but why are blazers so expensive!!!! They are READY to WEAR!!! I was looking at Tom Ford, Rick Owens, and YSL for something actually considered with a sharp and powerful shoulder and also cut longer than the midget smedium Thom Browne trend that seems to never go away, and everything is like $4000+ ... ? Can you PLEASE get over yourself

^ I just bought a Lanvin blazer (Lucas era) from TheRealReal for $148, and it came with the $4425 price tag still attached. The fabric is unbelievable.

As much as I share your pain looking at new collections, there's still good stuff out there at reasonable prices -- don't let increasingly irrational MSRPs ruin your day.

And for those who don't do secondhand, at least it's sale season!

Brands seem to definitely be restructuring the pricing of goods, at least for the aspirational entry level customers.

Ive noticed LV sunglasses, shoes. Balenciaga’s latest collection is priced lower than usual.

And Loewe's Fall releases higher than before, maybe to avoid potential Dior & Anderson competition with Anderson's Loewe classics... because, aesthetically they are the closest competitors right, no comparison of prestige of course, even though I find Loewe's work on leather far more luxurious than Dior's.

Yes, that’s the new direction most fashion houses (not Dior, Chanel and Hermes tho) are taking. They are very vocal about it and they actively mention in the strategy meetings…

As you said, they are paying attention to aspirational customers and they want to make sure there’s an offer for them in all categories, even RTW.

It makes sense to me. Not everyone needs to be Chanel.

I also saw how some the pricing of some bags were made and certain brands didn’t want to have a real button or a hook for the chain just to cut costs while the bag increased 200€/300€ every six months… really absurd. It’s just another level of cheapness. Or not adding a pocket inside a tote to save a few cents…

Thought I would splurge on some pieces from fall 2025 Prada collection but I just looked at the prices and absolutely the eff not.

I should’ve known from their appearances in this thread before.

Off to to Yoox to try to find a dsquared2 version I go. IMG_1767.jpeg

The best part of buying Prada these days is to have it come undone somehow or buttons fall off etc at time during first wear. So on top of retail you’ve got to factor in tailor too. By far the most overpriced designer in their category by far.

Donatella and Miuccia, good luck selling these Versace chainmail dresses, people would rather buy Vintage since these are carbon copies of glory Atelier Versace days...
70k for Versace is out of this world

I don’t find this overpriced at all…(in the context of HF).
I wish the skirt wasn’t that hideous but those pieces are from Donatella’s last collection. It will go down in the history of Versace. I don’t think they have a ton produced per countries either.
And yes, this is something for the Atelier Versace customer.

The person who buys that piece is probably already a Versace customer.

I’m less shocked by those kind of out of the world prices with pieces like that than when I’m seeing a very expensive tshirt, jeans or sometimes coat. Or even when there’s a huge gap in prices in terms of categories.

However the prices at MiuMiu and Prada are really ridiculous. Chanel ridiculous.
