Trend Forecast S/S 09

Lena i agree with you about formality for the older customer, I believe it will transpose in the guise of androgeny...
The younger market will take their inspiration from the likes of Agyness Deyn which allows creativy in dressing.

I was watching Agyness in Paris for Reebok on vogue.co.uk and her current style was the early Madonna period - that sort of super casual, super cool, oh so extremely eighties style - leather jacket, messy hair with rags tied in it.
Further revival of the eighties?

^ I agree, it does look that way ... not sure if it will have momentum into Spring 09, but I suspect so ...

I think we are heading to a time with a more cleaned up look..
it doesn't necessarly mean that it will be boring but with the slimmer siluette coming our way I believe we will be seeing lots of basics paired with something that really stands out, like these kinds of outfits

a simple white dress paired with an attentiongrabbing printed jacket

Proenza Schouler, style

i also imagine many neutral and light colours, very light and even more of sheer textiles, layered skirts
and some unusual ways of wearing clothes, similar to wearing a sweater as a skirt and something like that. like v.westwood collection this spring, but even more of that i think can be seen next summer
and also fierce, strong and very sexy women in latex? i think latex should be getting bigger and seen more often

I couldnt agree with you more. i have seen several textile mills showing fabrics for next summer, there are lots of jacquard and surface interest fabrics too.... and i see quite a few big shapes for next spring in feathery light fabrics but oversized in garment forms.

agreed with saann on the 'cleaner' look

even though i dont particularly like it, i can see the jacket keeping it's new found place in our wardrobes, stores need the jacket to revive the gloomy market

grey also seems to have a continuation if we trust what the textile mills are working on for next summer

^ Grey's been going strong for quite some time now ... I've begun to rely on it & don't want it taken away :p

I actually like that the jacket is becoming more important..
I've had that feeling about the 'revival' (as if it's ever really gone) of the fitted jacket ever since Balenciaga released their fw 07/08 collection

absolutely based on the Balenciaga fitted 'initiative'

short, box and roomy 'empire' jackets are very popular over here
and the industry desperately needs to push new 'must items'

i also see more non-typical trousers and less dresses for next summer

i think more designers will also dive into more experimental fabrics ..

there was silk cut like feathers @ proenza schouler

real feathers @ burberry , prada

vinyl-like materials @ marni

use of foam @ jil sander , balenciaga

i could go on

Very tailored, very structured jackets, pantsuits and jumpsuits will probably be the must have new look, a bit more YSL 1970s borrowed from menswear, le smoking, etc., rather than scruffy relaxed "Annie Hall" style. It's already here, but it probably will become the rage like Volume was. Pants will probably take on a lot of "weird" proportions, either very flared (but not the flared from the knees but from the thighs) or a tailored "harem pants" and also 80s pants cut.

I'm actually enjoying this, especially wearing an entire suit, matching pantsuit with vest, and then something crazy and colourful in accessories and big wavy hair!

exactly^
and dont forget ultra-high-waist & pyjamas and all kind of nostalgic biba catsuits

regarding grey, i'm surpised it is lasting so very very long
it's really becoming our new 'basic' like fashionista-ta said above

agreed with gius on experimental fabrics and need to add Baleciaga's latest fabric developements to the 'inventive' list
taking cue for gius list, feathers could easily develop in a huge theme for sso09

I'm thinking it's also time for the shape of handbags to change ... they've become almost ridiculously elongated at this point, so I'm thinking it's time for the pendulum to swing ...

im wondering if gunne saxe look / provencial look will ever enter fashion it has not been done in a looooooooooooong time

^ Interesting points about feathers ... Olivier has been using them a fair amount at Nina Ricci, Roger Vivier has been using them ... It seems like there's been a resurgence of couture artistry since Chanel bought in, and I read they're training a new generation now. Perhaps feathers are going to become a staple??

I notice Olivier uses them almost as a beading substitute sometimes, and it's so functional because they're so light, it keeps the gown weightless and so much more comfortable ...

Excellent read. Thanks everyone. :flower:

I always want to write something relevant but always end up researching the points, getting absorbed and forgetting to write anything...

Yes, the ultra high waist is all the rage!^_^ With the unflattering proportions, the high waist adds length and shows off the figure where the legs may be hidden.

I think the bright pastels trend will continue, not the washed out pastels, not neon, but the brighter gentler colours, like the coloured light layers at Jil Sander SS08.

^ yes !! those intense but soft colours.. gentle bright colours... neon-like
also the orange at prada
many kinds (pink, green, etc) at marni

i think it's great.. very lively
i find it's kind of a new thing..

it does have this kind of activewear feel ... techno vibe.. you see these colours in athletes' uniforms too
