Hi, I am a jewelry and handbags designer.
I would like to know where should I get the trends forecast before each season.
This is my first posting here, I have just discovered this site.
I live in Mexico

Hi Voguedal! Welcome to tFS! :flower:

This forum (trend spotting) is all about Trend forecasting, I am sure you'll be able to find interesting trend and ideas in this forum, as well as in the rest of tFS!

By looking at new collections, street style pics, I am sure you'll be able to spot new and upcoming jewelry and handbag trends.

trend forecast is available throught professional trend forecasting agencies known also as 'bureaux de style'
if you are prepared to pay then try > Promostyle, Nelly Rodi, Peclers and Carline agencies those are all Paris based, could be the best international forecasting 'tools'

So exactly what do these people look at to determine what the next trends will be?

At university we get a weekly allowance of hours to browse WGSN, but I think theres a subcription fee for workers in the industry?

Not sure about the details, but if you visit www.wgsn.com and follow the steps...

wow this is very interesting...i wonder how much these people get paid just to do tthat...

Well it's a highly well reputed source within the industry, so I'm guessing its worth every penny!

hhmmmmm and what basis do these companies go about deciding what the trends will be?

The Worth Global Style Network is used on a regular basis by both industry insiders and students, such as myself. I doubt my lecturers, who have all have previous experience working as cheif buyers, merchandisers and garment technologists, etc, would waste precious funds on a duff company.

Like I said, use of the site is through subscription only, however, it provides useful information such as industry and ecomony news updates, pictures from every catwalk show available and advice on future colour, fabric and styling trends.

Its 15,000.00 US$ ...sometimes people who have access to it are nice enough to post some info on here w/out breaking any rules

wow lots of $$, but well worth it. Now does anyone know the actual way they decide on what is what? perhaps looking at the numbers at what is being bought?

And sometimes universities are strict enough to kick you out for pulling stunts like that!

We're restricted to five hours a week only, and since assignments are due in alarmingly soon I gotta make the most of my advantages. Besides, my university fees are more than a years subscription to WGSN, so I'm gonna keep it to myself :innocent:

interesting...I wonder why there is a limit? how odd...

Well it's not odd at all really. On my course alone there are 150-200 students and I very much doubt my university can fork out whatever the equivalent of $15,000 for everyone of us, especially if you consider there are about 20 other related courses available and most students will stay for three years at least?!

WGSN offer what is called 'grace-logins' for students reading subjects within the industry. That way when we leave, we'll probably be encouraged to pay full subscription as a source of research for when we become fully fledged buyers, merchandisers or whatever.

highly interesting...so its $15,000 a year? wow just for the database thats a lot, but I guess it's valid. How much is a full fledged account? $15,000 as well?

WEll according to D'Filipe's previous post, a regular subscription is $15,000. I have no idea how much my university pays for student access, I imagine they strike up some sort of deal, as, as I mentioned before, graduated will often subscribe themselves to WGSN, as they have used it so frequently during their studys.

Student access to WGSN is free!!! IF YOU ARE A FASHION STUDENT! all you do is have a teacher register your college or university then they send you a pin go to www.WGSN-edu.com ...that site is a season behind the regular www.WGSN.com and you are limited to only 5hrs to prevent sharing of the same pin*
