To commemorate our 150th anniversary, we have commissioned five of the world's greatest female artists of our time – Yoko Ono, Tracey Emin, Maggi Hambling, Gillian Wearing and Jenny Holzer – to create original artworks for the fifth annual edition of Bazaar Art.
The publication has always been dedicated to pioneering women artists. Included in this issue is an insight into Tracey Emin's life in the Riviera, where she paints, walks along beaches and grows vegetables; an interview with Lubaina Himid – the oldest Turner Prize nominee; a dialogue between Julia Peyton-Jones and Yoko Ono, who discuss creativity, rebellion and revolution; and Jenny Holzer on the poetic inspiration behind her momentous exhibition at Blenheim Palace this autumn. We also meet five of the talented young artists who have been nominated for the Studio x Outset prize, which has been launched in partnership with Tiffany & Co.
Elsewhere in the issue, Maureen Paley talks about her love for Frida Kahlo, Frances Morris reflects on her first year at Tate Modern, and we ask Manuela Wirth to share her photo album as she celebrates 25 years of the Hauser & Wirth galleries.
We hope you will join us in celebrating these inspiring women. As Yoko Ono says of her work: 'Art expresses yourself. It's that simple. Life is beautiful.' We couldn't agree more.
