UK Vogue October 2021 : Zendaya by Craig McDean

Look likes a bad US Vogue cover. No to the model 101 pose. No to that YSL outfit.

And styled by Law. No, thank you. Next issue please.

Wake me up when Carlyne and Meisel is on the cover again.

The natural light automatically took me back to her US Vogue cover by Tyler Mitchell. Can't say I'm excited by this cover either way, it's neither here nor there really. The hair especially looks unfinished, like they put it up quickly for a light test or something. I have to admit I've never really understood the hype around Zendaya so maybe I'm biased...

Perhaps my most favoruite Zendaya cover to date! For once, Law Roach's styling doesn't overpower and the autumnal glamour just feels oh so right for a October cover. I'm struggling to find a negative, except for those minuscule and randomly placed cover lines.

I think she looks absolutely amazing!! I really enjoy her…

I’ve found another photo

It´s a nice cover but I wish that the editorial was better.

The second photo would have made a beautiful cover. All the photos are great but not what I expected.

The first preview would indeed have made a splendid cover, but I enjoy this regardless. Zendaya looks beautiful and it's definitely one of her best covers so far! It's nice to see her potential finally used in a fashion shoot instead of drowning her in unneccessary props, silly wigs and horrendeus makeup.

Would have preferred a Meisel shoot tbh, but this seems like a solid offering from McDean (who's had very shaky quality of work lately).

The Hollywood Reporter.

Can't believe Edward allowed Law Roach to style a cover. As the second most powerful editor in fashion, that's a huge blunder. And then you have the result which is painfully mediocre. Her InStyle cover had more direction and identity. And this is coming from someone who can't abide her.

Fail! Art direction looks even more juvenile with this cover. I've seen vanity magazines do better art direction.

I always enjoy Zendaya, apart of the stylist I have zero complains.

The black and white shot is gorgeous!

As Margot Robbie she has the beauty of a model, so to me is an ok cover and suits the Vogue title. Wish the picture had more energy, there's something missing here, but this is above of all the bad cover we have seen over the year. It's 7/10.

Oh what a shame the second shot wasn't the cover!

Not a big fan of McDean's work at the best of times, even less so with this cover shot channeling Tyler Mitchell for US Vogue. Terrible art direction as usual; whenever I see the new designers' work on the cover layouts it makes me want to cry, as a graphic designer myself I just want to march to the offices and demand they hire me instead.

Nice to see Zendaya though, although it's now been quite a long run of celebrity covers for British Vogue - would be great to get a model again soon!

She's a beautiful woman, so I understand her appeal on an aesthetic level, but on a personal note she does nothing for me.
She's a mediocre actress, with way too much hype. This cover is like a mashup of Essence, and Allure. If I had a gun to my head, and was forced to identify the photographer, I would have never guessed it was Craig McDean, who can be great, when he's inspired.

I have nothing against Law, but I don’t like that he styled the cover, he’s Zendaya’s personal stylist, so we already see how he styles her everyday. why won’t you allow another stylist to transform her into something we haven’t really seen?

According to Edward’s letter up on Vogue’s website, there’s an editorial photographed by Annie Leibovitz and styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson inside the issue which of course reeks of another shared story with American Vogue.
