US Bazaar December 2006 : Jennifer Lopez

Festive, yes. Beautiful, yes. I think this a great cover... and I don't mind Lopez on the cover...

Beautiful subscribers cover... if magazines aren't going to be exciting, then second-best is being beautiful (if a little dull).

[FONT=verdana, helvetica, arial][SIZE=-1]Liya Kebede by Lindbergh, Gisele in a black and white editorial by Lindbergh as well, Julia Stegner (boy, I'd love to see her in Vogue) by Lubomirski and Bridget Hall in an accessories editorial.

I saw it when I ran out to pick up Vogue today, and frankly, I thought it was pretty bland. I just gave it a quick glance but none of the editorials were particularly great and even though I buy Bazaar almost monthly, I decided to pass.

Peacelover, can you please scan Julia's ed? You'll have my eternal gratitude! Unfortunately Bazaar hasn't been for sale here in Portugal for about four years and I'm such a Julia's fan! I think I'm gonna faint!!!!!!!

Yay glad to hear Liya & Julia are in there, not so thrilled by the thought of Gisele, most of her recent eds have been on the boring side.

Even if it is a bland issue, I'll probably still end up buying it, force of habit.

got my issue today...

jennifer lopez wears marchesa, roberto cavalli, versace atelier and ysl (subscriber cover) in her ed...shot by alexi lumbomirski

yes, the liya ed has a nasa theme...she also has a 50s style bouffant hairdo...

bridget hall's ed is by richard burbridge...pink background with water splashing about...she wears the new marc jacobs sandals (with the "diamond" shaped heel) and the chanel transparent 2.55 bag, among other pieces...

julia's ed is called "chic in the snow" by alexi lubormirski...
wearing furs and a short platinum blonde wig...

the best dressed list features the usual suspects (nicole richie, lindsay lohan, kate moss, gwyneth, kate bosworth, etc.), but also some unexpected choices (courteney cox arquette, linda evangelista in the gorgeous pink ruffled ysl gown she wore to the met gala), joy bryant, and salma hayek...

there's also an interview with petra nemcova, "how i found love again"

new ads:
sasha for prada resort (bright ballet flats)
tasha tilberg for ann taylor (b/w, head shot only)
dolce & gabbana resort
anna mougoulis for chanel (holding a silver metallic oversized 2.55 bag)
mini andren, karolina kurkova, bianca balti, and maggie rizer for rolex
monica bellucci for dior (the quilted lady dior bag)
raquel z. for vuitton cruise

Can someone post the Jennifer pictures and article (because the ones posted have a tag on them) Please ?

Does someone from Paris know wHere i can find the mag ?

bazaar dec 2006 julia liya gis lindbergh J Lo
bazaar dec 2006

EDIT #1: liya shot by lindbergh. theres a fun astronaut theme here, in a silver NASA spacesuit, that forms an amusing & effective contrast to the glam evening looks styled by mary alice stephenson. liya is actually at about the top of her game here as she was in us vogue starting maybe 4 or so years ago. i see that liya has become an HB fixture, which i guess means shes not going to be in us vogue much anymore. ie this is glenda kind of sticking it to anna and her eccentric and often boring/repetitive model casting. [if liya's on the outs with anna I'll show that HB can use her & use her really well!]. in this case it really works: liya rocks & lindbergh's set pieces of rockets & even a recreation of the famous 1969 Armstrong earth walk are all put together really well. when lindbergh goes conceptual,. as he did with mariacarla's genius factory girl shoot or the maggie cheung Area 51 thing about 18 months ago, lindbergh truly excels. the evening looks here are pretty strong & the pics with the astronaut dancing & taking various 1969 NASA poses are the best. pretty hot smart edit glam & amusing too. lindbergh really made it happen. 7.7 of 10.
* Girls + Girls: Valentina + N. Poly look even better in Ralph's gold evening dresses show pic by S. cunningham.
** Lily D looks stunning in black sequined Versace minidress.

COVER/EDIT #2: J Lo by lubomirski. how about this one. As I recall testino [alexi's teacher] shot 1 or even 2 HORRID vogue J Lo stories [that swimming pool one was a nightmare]. guess what alexi did much better!! now dont get crazy here Im still no fan of J Lo [I do own the "waiting for tonight' CD45 tho!!] but alexi did a pretty nice silver bells themed XMas shoot on her!! mary alice stephenson styled again, she has brains & taste. newsstand cover is versace: J Lo looks really really pretty here!!
sub. cover is also really good, YSL & a full body look. inside J Lo wears cavalli & the versace again. considering its J Lo & showy shiny xmas theme, this is actually pretty decent. and I was giving her vogue pics like 2 of 10!! successful Xmas cover & celeb edit: 6.5 of 10.

EDIT #3: gisele in b&w by lindbergh. on the beach i think its florida? casual/resort looks by katie mossman, not blown away by the clothes. technically I like the B&W tonality of lindbergh's beach pics- although hes certainly done much better in this style many times. I think some will find gis a bit worse for wear here- she def looked better in recent us vogue edit with eric banana- but no doubt shes still a presence in front of camera. i just wld have expected more with lindbergh + gis on a beach. but these B&Ws have a vibe i just find the clothes message a bit iffy or average except for the LV dress. still the beach itself looks sweet, but then again weber shot kate moss in nov us vogue in similar idea about 100 times better. nice enough gis/lindbergh shoot but actually less tahn youd expect on paper. 6.4 of 10
* also Gis & KK play makeup in what looks like a Vic secret makeup promo pic- KK's pel;ican like nose is especially prominent here & gis is shot below the chin- poor angles for both & another less than ideal Gis moment in this ish.
** more Beauty: Svetlana Lazareva by Plamen Petkov: actually really cool late 60s looking pic in Dior sequined shades & peach/blonde tones. One of more forward retro-nuevo images in this generally conservative mag aesthetically speaking.

EDIT #4 bridget hall accessories by rich burbridge. BH has either had some face surgery and/or these are pretty airbrushed. her face looks tight, or something. burbridge actually shoots some decent access. pics, very disco-y; ana maria pimental edited. its juts not a major story altho BH is hanging in there given that you wldnt expect to see her at all. its ok & thats about it. 5 of 10.

EDIT #5 julia stegner ski edit shot by alexi lubomirski. HB bringing julia back is by far the best thing about this ish. shes had some stunning HB & W edits in 21 century, not to mention all time great shoots for italian & paris vogue. even in the conceit of a winter ski shoot julia shines here- like claudia schiffer would have in 20th century but about twice as good. julia simply recalls classic archetypal superwoman blondes...theres a bit of a judit masco and vendela thing here but again julia towers over all of these worldclass beauties. looks like colorado. alexi did pretty well with the retro chalet ski look; however paris vogue had iselin shoot this same idea with jansson 1-2 months ago & jansson REALLY made the 50s-60s chalet ski fantasy come to life. alexi is no jansson. still theres a vibe/story-telling here that is only matched by lindbergh's NASA story above in this ish- and julia is so much the best girl in this mag its not funny. its the most evocative story in dec HB and julia made the ski thing work & then some- but in better hands than alexi it could have been even better. patti wilson did something with the retro ski looks but again its just inferior to iselin in paris vogue, except for julia who is far & away the best thing in this issue. 8 of 10 really for julia.

XMas gifts; "Blow Up" 1967 movie poster $2,500.

Too Late Bye Bye: Petra Nemcova profile re: "I found Love again, with Jmaes Blunt." Whoopps. Blunt cheated with some groupies & Petra's single & looking again. When did this ish go to bed, Sept.?? cute pic of Petra in Chloe mini dress. Outdated Petra/Blunt feature makes HB look really bad & dumb.

VERDICT: Decent HB XMas ish but not a homerun. J Lo XMas cover was good for her, but not at the level of recent HB XMas' with Winslet & Jenn Moore. Alexi did a nice job tho surpassing Testino's US Vogue J LO's. Lindbergh shot a nice story with Liya that was glam and also humourous, a successful XMas edit. Julia's ski shoot was the real winner here, lets hope we see lots more Julia in HB & everywhere in 2007, Alexi & Patti Wilson were good not great with julia and yet shes by far the best thing in the issue. Gisele in HB might be a special idea but this shoot was far from that except Lindbergh's beach scenes had some nice tonality. Still less than youd hope for from a Lindbergh/Gis beach shoot & Weber's Kate Moss in Nov vogue piisses all over this edit. Otherwise some average HB shopping beauty & lifestyle stuff- yopud expect more from an XMas ish. And Bridget Hall doesnt do anything anymore & calling james blunt Petra's BF made HB look old & dumb. Julia, Lindbergh & maybe Liya were hot this month. Otherwise its less than youd expect from an XMas HB & that has been a problem all year. I think Glenda is dumbing down her book in 2006, and that provides less real excitement for the true blue fashionists, model & photo fans. Here's to a better 2007 !! ONE MILD SLIGHT THUMBS UP

earl of grey
