US Vogue January 2005 : Jennifer Lopez by Mario Testino

metal-on-metal ^^ i agree with you. anna wintour probably saw this as.. dammit, if i haaaaave to... but, can someone pleaaaase explain to me what is going on with her eyebrows?!!? there is something terribly off with them.

so she "feels like starting over"... i feel like yawning. looks like US vogue is turning into something more like US magazine than being what it should be, which is a fashion magazine

can't stand the woman. she epitomises all the fakeness in Hollywood. I heard this cover took a much longer time planning than usual, and Wintour told the J-Lo people that everything would be on her terms. For once I'd have to say - Go Anna!!

Jennifer Lopez is beautiful

I love the pictures! I don't understand what people are so negative about. OK, so the cover does look weird... they could have picked a better picture, but overall, the pics in the article are just gorgeous. I especially love the one where she is in the blue dress walking the dogs. and the one where she is standing by the pool. i think she looks so classy. why do people hate her so much?! this isn't about the pictures/vogue cover/article anymore, it's commentary/criticism about her and her life.

what is that jesus said again... "let s/he who has committed no sin be the first one to throw the stone" (at mary magdalene).

same thing here. we are all so critical of each other, as if we ourselves were perfect and look like models all the time, and have never made a mistake. we as a species are VICIOUS! god it makes me sick! just look at yourself! look at YOUR LIFE. have you always been the paradigm of perfectionism, and utmost stalwart good behavior?? you've made mistakes, and you've had the luxury of being able to do it behind the safety of closed doors, or at least without hundreds of cameras being pointed at you. she hasn't. she's had to live life, like the rest of us, stumbling along and making mistakes JUST LIKE EVERYONE, but with all cameras on her. and you know why all those cameras keep whirring?? because no matter how much people hate to admit it, in a sick way, we want more!

what has she ever done that has been absolutely vile and detestable?? has she killed anyone? has she hired anyone to kill anyone? all she has been is true to herself. she isn't afraid to be a beautiful, strong, emotional, powerful, romantic, Latina woman in front of everyone. and for that people hate her. they find SOMETHING wrong.

why can't we just be HAPPY for each other, each other's successes and triumphs?? this is just a small example of why this world we live in can be such a brutal place. instead of building each other up, we are intent on destroying one another. and one day, we will.

January issues aren't very important, they are thin and generally don't sell too well. Which I think enables magazines to experiment a little bit in that month. Maybe Anna figured that if J.Lo has to have a cover, she might as well get it over with and do it in January if possible.
hehe I agree :innocent:

Its not about her having to be perfect. But its the fact that she's everything Vogue doesn't stand for. Vogue is about people who have some elegance and class, not a person who is trying to rival Liz Taylor's record of marriages. I personally think Vogue's image has dropped 10 times ever since having J.Lo on the cover.

Are you a member of the Jennifer Lopez fan club??... kidding, anyway I think it annoys people because Jennifer Lopez is known for being a huge b*tch, isn't that respected of an actress, dresses trashy, and is just annoying in general-I'm referring to the whole J.Lo/Jenny from the block crap.

Putting her on the cover of Vogue is like Barneys suddenly deciding to sell Baby Phat(ha or J.Lo brand)... its just wrong

maybe i'm missing something...why did jennifer have to "have" a cover?
i mean, she looks worse than it originally looked, i don't need to go on about how bad american vogue is...if i don't liek it, i just won't buy it...

it's annoying because almost everything is in place for that to be a great edit except the model looks pretty bad and the photographer didnt turn in the normally high quality images that he typically delievers with a real model.

I have to disagree. Many of the people who are featured on the cover of Vogue are not that classy, nor do they lead the best lives. What they are though is White and often blonde. Anna seems to have decided that women of color are rarely deserving of gracing her magazine. US Vogue is way behind other magazines in terms of diversity and representing all women. Many someone should remind Ms. Wintour that women of color also have money, buy designer clothes, travel and enjoy the best in life. That is not only the realm of the tall and blonde. :innocent:

As for Liz Taylor, she is considered an icon despite her many marriages. If she isn't judged harshly for all she has done, then why should Jennifer Lopez?

All of Vogue's covers right now feature the 'top' Hollywood actresses. And Hollywood is populated with white people. The only remarkable actress that is of color is Halle Berry, and she's been on the cover already.

What about Rosario Dawson, Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek, Lucy Liu? These are not "remarkable actresses of color"? I don't really follow US Vogue all that well, so I am not sure if they've been on the cover, but I would have to argue that these women have been "remarkable" in their own right at some point in the last 2 years.

How remarkable is remarkable? Usually by Hollywood standards, remarkable is measured by an Oscar.

which again *usually* goes to white women. even halle berry was shocked when she received the oscar. if you remember her speech, she mentions that it is a huge step for black women everywhere, bla bla bla.

and i don't think that everyone on the Vogue cover has been an Oscar winner... have they? like i said, i don't really follow that magazine, but i would think that since the Oscars only happens once a year, and there are only 2 winners that vogue cares about (best actress and best supporting actress), then that would surely not make for 12 covers for an entire year.

janvier

if you look at the january harper's bazaar, peter lindbergh was able to shoot an editorial on scarlett johansson which succeeded from a model, actress, clothing and location perspective.

by contrast, J Lo's modelling and appearance was substantially below scarlett's; and compared to what testino generally delivers as a fashion photographer, the actual composition and impact of the pictures was wanting. his charlize theron pictures for example, were far better from a model perspective and i would also say fashion & composition-wise.

the setting was there for J Lo, but she didnt look that well, including hair, and some of the clothes were okay but in sum it was palpably inferior to lindbergh's scarlett photos & story.

I think Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek would both be great covers for Vogue because they both exude class and elegance... J.Lo does not. Penelope and Salma would never wear something like this-

Penelope Cruz did have a US Vogue cover. That was a 3 or 4 years ago though. As for Lucy Liu, I don't think she really deserves a cover. Her acting isn't extraordinary.
