I think Gigi is quite good in this, as I expected, as I agree she always delivers in the role of the bombshell, but I think it's a shame the pics don't look more natural. I prefer this type of editorial when you see the freckles, grains of sand and water on the skin, etc. This all looks just far too polished.
I actually really like it, but this really doesnt seem like Elle. Its like some bizarre mix between Maxim and Elle. It might just be a matching style of photographer but Chris(sorry christ) doesn't come close to Bensimon.
The first shot in the editorial is gorgeous, but the rest is a mess and the edit is sooooo disjointed! It's a shame because I've generally loved Chris Colls' work for US Elle. The gimmicky posing, weird styling and washed out make-up just don't really work for me. They close-up cover is probably the best out of the three, but on second inspection its probably not suitable for the newsstand. Her chin is tilted just a bit too high, there's too much hair on her face...it feels like this could have been good, but hasn't quite worked.
Judging from the text amount on all the covers, I think the one with Gigi in the pink jacket is the only/main one. And it's my favourite, so I will be very tempted to buy it! Practice makes perfect and Gigi's work lately proves it.
Must admit that I've been excited for this to drop since Gigi was spotted shooting this in Rio but felt immediately underwhelmed and deflated when that helicopter cover was released first.
However, the cover with Gigi wearing the pink blazer completely restored my faith and I will definitely make the purchase if that particular cover makes it over here to the UK!
I do not hate these. I like their nostalgic feel. Normally I'm so not impressed with Chris Colls' photography but these look more mellow, more natural than his normal over-retouched/crunchy photos.
There's a great editorial in there somewhere, but these days, we're so conditioned to accept rubbish that we're good at finding the bright side to editorials that would never have gone to print about fifteen years ago.
There's a few usable shots that would look well alongside a profile interview, but as the lead editorial in a March issue, that's just sad. A crumpled, artificial mess.
Looks like they went to Brazil to waste money on a location photo shoot. Nothing really screams Brazil. They could have done this shoot in LA or Florida or etc.
Only good thing about this is that it’s GiGi’s first Elle cover and she looks fabulous! and it’s very spring/summer vibe. Which I know I need because this has been a looooong winter.
I'm finding that I don't mind any of the three covers, even the over dramatised helicopter cover - her posing is assured and she's owning it. My least favourite is probably her facial expression and the boofy hair in the pink jacket. Her close up shot is beautiful. The snippets from her accompanying article sound interesting; although she's most likely she's been prepped in what to say, it's another issue to have it come across the way you want it to. I'm taking it as a good sign that the caption to her pictures isn't about how you can read all about what she thinks of her boyfriend and her plans to dominate Hollywood.
