US Elle September 2022 : Adele by Mario Sorrenti

There’s a dreamy, smouldering Jerry Hall story there somewhere with a few of the shots: Wrapped in fur; B&W shot; laying on the floor. Unfortunate that the rest seemed on the catalogue filler side. And too bad ELLE doesn’t do gatefolds— because just flip the shot of her laying on the floor to face the left, and it would have really been a cover worthy of remembrance.

Oh well, at least Mario and George haven’t been cancelled and still working. Although, they’re hardly pushing the brand of titillating imagery that they once did. Got to blend in with the bland times if you want to work these days.I get it.

The use of Mario Sorrenti and George Cortina just feels oh so right for a September cover, and it's terrific to see Nina Garcia championing such big names within the industry for American Elle. I've zero complaints with the cover itself, except for the total lack of neck on Adele!

Adele looks so striking on her cover story, it's a fine & beautiful editorial.

I have to say, when I was skimming through the issue a few days ago in print, not a single image from any of the editorials made me stop for a second look. None of it is especially bad, but they all feel kind of throwaway. I'm happy to see location shoots, and I do applaud them on the number of editorials, at least.

Again, thank you Anastasia Barbieri !

Barbieri is doing extra hours to carry this issue on her back. "Trail Blazer" reminded me of her works for VP, while " Romantic Drama" is giving Holiday magazine.

Alex White on the other hand is quite mediocre. Both of her editorials look like leftovers from the i-D magazine at best.

Nars and Wilson ed is so-so, the garish backgrounds drag down the shoot.

Overall a quite decent issue, definitely better than whatever mess at Vogue US right now. Nina is smart to court Barbieri for her magazine.

What a beautiful magazine, full of editorials, with real fashion models there. Elle took Vogue's place as fashion bible. Would love to buy a magazine like this, no question. Loving both covers with Georgia and Adele.
