US Harper's Bazaar February 2010 : Miley Cyrus by Peter Lindbergh

The subscribers cover is so blah. The guitar is unnecessary. That last image. It's going to be odd seeing 9 years olds buying HB.

Arlenis.^_^

I'm no fan of Arlenis, but I can't believe how radiant she looks in that editorial.

The cover is shot by Peter Lindbergh. Arlenis ed is nice, I like it.

I just love Arlenis' ed! It's got a very happy feeling to it and it is really appropriate for spring. Now I just can't wait to see Iselin! She always delivers.

Bazaar likes to incorporate radom pop culture things into their editorials sometimes (Law and Order, The Simpsons). I am seriously hoping that putting Miley on the cover is some elaborate, subversive joke, especially after seeing that last, horrifying image.

They can add in as much pop culture phenomenons as they want, but why, in the space of three months, have they put two very tween-targeted 'phenomenons' on the front cover? They need more range. They're not just going to put some teen superstars on the cover every time they want more copies sold. They end up losing the demographic they were originally targeting for.

Their looks at every age features apply to people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70+, yet they put a crappy 17-yr-old disney star on the cover.

for those who cares

Miley Cyrus dons a gorgeous blue Giorgio Armani silk top on the February 2010 cover of Harper’s Bazaar, on stands January 12th. Check out what the 17-year-old Disney starlet opened up about:

On the headline-making Vanity Fair photo of herself being wrapped in a bed sheet: “Here, my parents are thinking they’re seeing a beautiful photograph by a major photographer, and the people of America want to see something dirty in that? It doesn’t make sense to us because [my family] doesn’t look for negativity. But people don’t want to say ‘What a great performance’ or ‘What a great shot.” No one wants to look at something like that and see the positive because it doesn’t sell a magazine.”

On the pressures of being in the spotlight 24/7: “My job is to be a role model, and that’s what I want to do, but my job isn’t to be a parent. My job isn’t to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I’m still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That’s just life.”

On leaving LA this summer to film her new movie, The Last Song: “I got on the plane [to Georgia], and I was lying in my mom’s lap and crying and saying, “I’m so happy to be getting out of L.A. [In Tybee, GA] I went out every night with my friends. I did karaoke. I danced. All this stuff would’ve been such a big deal in Los Angeles: Who’s she with? Why is she dancing? I felt so alive and real. It’s so much easier to know who you are when there aren’t a thousand people telling you who they think you are. I felt like I was really figuring myself out. Usually I have someone whispering in my ear, but I was on my own.” (FYI: Miley is dating her on-screen love interest in real life — Liam Hemsworth.)

On having insecurities despite all the adoration: “I used to ask everyone all day, ‘Do I look pretty?’ I probably asked that question about as many times as I blink.” But in Georgia she finally got over it. “It’s not about how because I started feeling beautiful; it’s just because I was comfortable. I was so used to the paparazzi and the cameras and the ‘What are you wearing?’ and having people stare at me.”

I can't wait when see ed. ( about collections summer ed, not MIley ) :)

Wow everyone take a chill pill. I, too, would love to think of this cover as some sort of ironic statement but I'm pretty sure it's just because Miley Cyrus (whether you like it or not) is getting some major PR and putting a good amount of money in the bank right now...much more than some of the older stars.

Obviously the cover got all of us talking and created a good amount of buzz, I doubt there would be 8 pages of comments already if it was Cameron Diaz on the cover.

The styling is clearly a mess, but I also can't really imagine what we wouldn't peg...she obviously is no fashion or style icon, nor do I think she even has a personal style. I think they just decided to do something tame so that at least they wouldn't upset us with some sort of country crock or faux pop/teenage BS...

I know it's "cool" to hate Miley or whatever, but I just kind of feel bad for her...she's not even PRETENDING that she knows what she's doing...poor girl

ya i agree

I was upset enough when Nylon put Megan Fox on their cover, then Elle did it, now Harper has Miley. What do these celebs say about american culture? Horrible things. Horrible choice for a covergirl Harper. What a sad sad choice.:yuk:
What the f*ck was going through Glenda Bailey's head when she put MILEY CYRUS on the cover of HARPER'S BAZAAR. Jesus. First Elle, I pray to God Anna isn't getting any ideas. I'm officially over American fashion magazines, if these are the kind of people they are featuring.

What annoys me about Miley's pictures is the fact that her smile looks so contrived and unnatural, and she doesn't even look the same.

Oh, and if I can remember correctly, isn't Harper's Bazaar suppose to be Vogue's competition in terms of being a fashion mag? This just proves how desperate Harper's Bazaar has been this last few years to take on the number one spot again from Vogue; but no matter how many copies of this issue sells because of Miley, even if it surpasses Vogue's, it will never get the same amount of praise and high quality appeal.

I think this cover is supposed to promote Miley's new film, The Last Song, which is not really geared towards the Hannah Montana crowd... it's similar to Twilight/A Walk to Remember. The role was written specifically to help her transition to an older audience.

Anyway, she doesn't look that bad here.

Since my post just got deleted I really don't know what I did wrong I wanted to ask again if someone could post a review and maybe pictures of the contents and adverts featured in this issue. I'm especially looking for the Blumarine one with Doutzen.

I wonder, were people as outraged in the 1980s that Brooke Shields as a young teen was appearing on the covers of magazines like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, even Cosmopolitan (not due to her being sexualized, but just because she was a girl on the cover of a magazine geared largely towards women) as they are about teens nowadays (or people who market themselves towards teens) being on adult/fashion magazines? Hmmmm.

I think Dakota deserves everything, she has achieved so much. And no one ever complained about Kate Moss either.
