US Harper's Bazaar February 2010 : Miley Cyrus by Peter Lindbergh

I wonder, were people as outraged in the 1980s that Brooke Shields as a young teen was appearing on the covers of magazines like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, even Cosmopolitan (not due to her being sexualized, but juste because she was a girl on the cover of a magazine geared largely towards women) as they are about teens nowadays (or people who market themselves towards the teen market) being on adult/fashion magazines? Hmmmm.

Brooke Shields began her career as a successful fashion model, and she was already hailed as a great actress from the beginning of her acting career. Miley Cyrus is neither a model, a great singer, nor a great actress, nor a high-fashion figure. She is simply a brand created by Disney and her Hannah Montana namesake is what's giving her notoriety, not for her talents. So it is justifiable that people are outraged that Miley Cyrus is being chosen to appear on a high-fashion magazine, if Harper's Bazaar is even that. Her face belongs on magazines like Teen Vogue; and when she appeared on Teen Vogue, no one really was outraged because it suited her.

Hello everyone,

I'm sure someone who has the issue will be happy to post a review as soon as they can. It happens every month so you'll just have to be patient. There's really no point in constantly asking for a review, scans, etc. It just clutters up the thread.

Thank you.

I'd really argue your defence of Brooke Sheilds though, because I believe she was mainly a child model prior to making the cover of Vogue at 14 or something in 1980 I believe. Before 1980 she was quite known for the film Pretty Baby which was quite controversial for which her acting wasn't amazing which was followed by the Blue Lagoon in the early 80s that she actually won a Razzie for. I just find it interesting because when I see Brooke's high fashion covers she just looks like a terrified little girl and I can't imagine people actually wanting to buy those covers.

One of the reasons why Brooke Shields was very popular with the fashion crowd was because of her unique strong features, such as her very full brows, which was very different at the time when many models opted for very thin, sometimes drawn on, brows.

And those terrified little girl covers can be easily compared to today's expressionless models. Even better, her expressions are very similar to that of Natalia Vodianova, big eyed with a surprise look on their faces.

And there's a big difference for a model to make such a huge impact at such a young age by modeling for Vogue than for a teen pop star whose been popularized by Hannah Montana for a few years to be all of a sudden given a Harper's Bazaar cover for no apparent reason, especially for the fact that she is yet to prove her talents. Strip her of the Hannah Montana name and her singing and acting would be considered mediocre by Harper's Bazaar and would largely be ignored.

here are some previews, sorry about the poor quality.

I like the look of Camilla's ed...looks more interesting than her recent eds in Bazaar...Iselin looks flawless as usual even in such a dull ed :).

Thanks xerq :flower:

Wow,a lot of Miley hate going on. Whether we agree or not,to a certain extent, she is relevent. She doesn't look too bad on the cover. And I was thinking about Iselin only earlier  So good to see her!

I think we all got so caught up celebrating Miley's delightful cover feature that for a while nothing else mattered. Thanks for calling us back to Earth. ;) Also, for the review and preview.

there are 75938302- things i hate about miley

but arlenis and akrans ed looks good

i have such a strong hatred for miley cyrus, it goes beyond what i can say.

I like the look of Iselin's ed
when Camila uses dull models the ed looks bad
and thats what it seems like it is

The issue isn't so great. The editorials are alright, and the cover is obviously horrible. I picked it up because I didn't have anything to do. :D

^^I picked it up for the ads :innocent:
There is a new shot of Gucci with Natasha, and YSL with Natalia that have not been posted yet. This issue is only 184 pages long though.

title needs to be changed, because cover is shot by Lindbergh

I swear, Camilla Akrans uses the same three locations in all of her shoots! I've seen that garden and that white wall at least fifty times in the last five years!

Iselin's editorial looks alright though. Who shot this?

Thank you so much for the previews, xerq. I just love Iselin's editorial and Camilla Akrans' editorial looks great and usually I'm not a big fan of her work.

Arlenis' story is totally the feel-good kind, not only she looks so gorgeous, she also makes me want to fix my bike and wait for spring to knock in.

When was the last time Akråns shot Iselin?, I wish they had teamed up for this, always liked what these two produced.. they both seem to have a good grasp of how to portray femininity at its best and most glorious.

As for the cover.. I feel like I'm already used to Glenda's shit taste in celebrities, I'm not bothered by it, it could be worse.. at least this girl is genuinely a teenager (bossy, arrogant, loud and clueless) and doesn't pretend that much.. pretty much your typical children's idol, I can't be bothered. Peter captured her well though.. if it wasn't for her face (which I'm not very fond of), it'd be a rather pretty set.
