US Harper's Bazaar June/July 2018 : Bella Hadid by Solve Sunbsbo

Not horrible, but for crying out loud, give us a break from Kendall, Gigi and Bella!! It feels like this year they are even more "full on" than when they broke out on the scene, few years ago!!

Sigh!!

Glenda should thank her lucky stars for SS, doing magic for them!

The worst thing for me about this pandering to instagirls (besides the fact they are not even particularly "beautiful" to be models), is that in the end everything they have been in is totally disposable. The nature of their fame will guarantee that in a couple of years no one will remember they even existed, the same way the 15 year olds that follow their every move never heard of a Paris Hilton or a Nicole Ritchie, this group too will be totally forgotten. Their images in isolation are not strong enough to prevail, so what is the point? That's why I find the fact that magazines that people expect a certain level of quality are willing to constantly feature this type of models depressing, it smells of desperation and lack of a long term project.

Bella always looks like she's made of plastic and people accessorise around her. It's a bad cover.

Ok, both covers are gorgeous and that is one stunning editorial. One of my favorites print works from Bella. Those (dead, but beautiful) eyes...

DAMN Gigi, Bella and Kendal will never leave !!!! GOSH  these girls bring NOTHING to the industry. They don´t express anything with their eyes, they don´t know how to pose or walk the runway. They are just `there´ and famous for anything. I miss so much the supers of the 80 and 90´s where you could interview the supers and they had an opinion and they had the SKILL to model. Naomi, Christy, Linda, Kate, Cindy, Claudia, Nadja, Kristen, Shalom, Amber, Kristy and all of themmmmmmm they could have any wig, any makeup, any pose and they knew how to give it to the camera. So many kids today don´t even know who these women are and they see Kendal or Bella and think ``this is how we should model´´ lol it´s freakin´ sad. It´s a blank face with nothing behind the eyes. I bring it all the time but take Coco Rocha, Caroline Trentini, Jourdan Dunn, Gemma Ward, Liu Wen, Raquel Zimmermann, Shu Pei, Hilary Rhoda they ALL KNOW what to bring when being in front of a top photographer and they have subtance. I have nothing against Bella, Gigi or Kendall but they are just there to entertain themselves but they are not true models at heart, you can´t tell me they could pose like Verushka or Twiggi or Iman and bring the same passion for Fashion. They are just rich cute BLAND girls who are just there for being there. No one in the history of Fashion will remember them. Can we go on to another era of Fashion and have real models please?! So so so sick of this instacrap.

But sadly, this does not only apply to the models. Fashion designers bring nothing to the industry either. They don't express anything with their collections. They're just 'there' and famous for anything, as you said. Demna, Virgil, Alessandro. Demna is a mess I don't even want to speak about, perhaps the biggest, laziest tragedy to ever happen to the fashion industry. Virgil is following in his footsteps and Alessandro creates a cute fantasy, something that was lovely for the first two seasons but then became overused and annoying, a hot mess of a renaissance mood board. Even the older icons that once used to make actual high fashion are losing it (miss Prada, for example, who really needs to either retire or get it together). Stylists, photographers... It's a lazy generation! There's no dream, there's no imagination and there's certainly no creativity or self expression. We can't expect models who came out of a generation like that to be able to pose, express and work the way they used to in the 90s and 2000s. It's a bland era because people are satisfied with anything now, the young population is obsessed with insta-girls or insta-anything and it's just a tragic, sad time for the world. We need to wait until a better era comes and hopefully it won't take too long otherwise we might as well get our brains washed, jump the bandwagon and be infinitely happy in our own ignorance. ^_^

so true :flower: I hope to see new photographers, editors and designers to change this boring era of Fashion. A few manage to stand out but I know quality was there before and it´s not about being nostalgic, I just know designers and houses and magazine editors were stronger before.

Absolutely

That first shot with the Valentino hat is just so good, the best I've seen being published in this mess of a magazine in the last few months (or years). Bella is really boring but the photoshop pulls it toghether.

For all of us

On being perceived as one-dimensional—a non-smiler: “I never go a day without smiling. People always say I have the same facial expressions. But what they don’t realize is that for a long time I looked that way because photographers on set would direct me to look “bored” or “very nonchalant.” But it isn’t necessarily the way I really am.”

On the negativity of social media and being in the public eye: “For a while I fought a lot of battles—with myself, with people online—and it brought me down. When people would say, “Oh, she’s so mean,” I wanted to say, “Maybe I’ve just had a bad day! Or maybe I’ve just been crying.” You never know what people are going through… [People] see such a small piece of our lives, like paparazzi photos of us leaving the house. You know how awkward that is? To walk out of your own home and have 40 people waiting outside. And then you need to smile at random strangers.”

I can't. Even when you are directed to look bored, at least you gotta convince something. The edit acutally looks great but if I compare this to Kendall's Elle US covers and edit, I really think the styling and Solve really elevate it rather than Bella has improved her skills.

For all of us

There's nothing more infuriating than people who complain about something yet do absolutely nothing to change their situation. You signed up for 40 people outside your home requesting a smile, and constantly feed into that while reaping the benefits, so suck it up.

Exactly! Especially since she is known to call the paps herself...

With that said, this is her best cover and editorial this year thus far. I don't care for the mask on the newsstand cover but the subscriber's cover and edit are pretty amazing. The styling is flawless... surprisingly Bella is able to model these clothes... something I don't think Gigi is able to do... and she is def giving different faces in the editorial.

I may pick up a copy. It seems like both HB and Elle are improving whereas US Vogue is regressing with each copy...

If I want that sort of editorial, I could buy UK Harper's Bazaar, and see it done far better.

Just so I'm clear, Bella, Gigi and Kendall are the only models currently available for bookings???!!!

Unbelievable how redundant these covers are getting...if it's not one, it's the other. Tragic.

Trash!

The best fashion american magazine now is Elle. 80’s back. Time to change the editor of vogue and Bazaar
