Does VF ever have non-Americans on the cover? I can't think of any recent covers...hmmm...Anyway, I don't have anything against dead celebrities - for the most part they're far better than live ones.

^Hmm, well they've had British celebs before on their cover (i.e. Kate Winslet) and I recall Carla Bruni being on the cover awhile back.

^Thank you :flower: Maybe it's just dead foreigners they avoid :) Oh, no Heath Ledger. I guess I'm just mad Garbo didn't make it this time around

Yes again, another dead celebrity. But at least it's Grace.

I don't care who she slept with, or if she had affairs. She's beautiful. Beyond beautiful on most occasions.

Her retrospective opens at the V&A this month, so I'm guessing this is possibly the main reason she's got the cover. Although that's in the UK, and I imagine VF makes most of its decisions based on a US market..

I think Penelope Cruz was on in November and Robert Pattinson was on in December. Why do I remember these things

WTF? Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway and Matthew Fox were supposed to be on the May cover.

Maybe they are getting the June one

:innocent:You're not alone. I wonder if the article mentions her affairs with married co-stars and abortions?

I think most people would want to remember the positive things about someone's life after they are dead.
I don't mind Grace because she isn't always talked about like Marilyn, Jackie O, and even Audrey Hepburn. I think she's great and the cover would appeal to an older generation who grew up with her, as well as younger people who may be curious about her career and especially her style.
VF has been all about nostalgia, uncovering past scandals etc. so the dead celebs don't surprise me just as long as it isn't Marilyn or one of the Kennedy's on the cover again I'll be good! :ninja:

My problem with the cover is that it just doesn't seem timely or relevant at this moment. No real reason as to why she's on the cover besides the London exhibit which isn't really reason enough.

Hmmm. Why exactly is it not reason enough? Because it's in London...?

It's a major exhibit. And I think someone mentioned previously there was a new book about her coming out.

VF is catering to it's demographic. Older, white, upper-middle class/wealthy people who love to read about "the good old days".

zzzzzzzz

Hmmm....the people who were around their 20s when Grace Kelly was in her 20s would be about 80 now. Do they really care about magazines at that point?

I dunno, I've been interested in reading about the good old days since I started being able to read

^Yeah me too, but you have to admit there is a certain market that the kennedy, Grace Kelly and similar covers like this appeal to.

I know I will care about magazines until I'm 100:lol:

That's a pretty feeble argument. The deal with Grace Kelly is that she's been whitewashed, mythologised, and painted as this picture of perfection and embodiment of perfect virtue. In fact, this was far from the truth.

Maybe that's just me, but I value truth over a whitewashed and constructed image. At least, I value journalistic attempts to uncover such truth.

(Not, of course, that that's at all relevant to the VF cover. My opinion on the cover - meh. Couldn't care less. As part of a generation who's barely heard of her, I only see her as a relic of a bygone time I feel little connection to).
