US Vogue December 2023 : Nicki Minaj by Norman Jean Roy

late 90s to early 00s. i like foxy brown too but Nicki has BARZ.

I mean “i was like yo trey do u think u can buy me a bottle of rosé” at the time I was dating someone names Trey (nickname - he was a 3rd) and I would say that to him a lot. Lol “i dont say Hi i say keys to the benz!” That is so meee. Lol.

karl also cosigned nicki with the Fendi collab. I dont know any other rap girlie who got cosigned by KL

Love her and love this! Way overdue, I must admit I never saw it coming especially after the Covid scenario (it's never a good look to have Tucker Carlson rooting for you) and this unpleasant business with her husband. Maybe she will address it in the interview?

I thought it was shot by Ethan, and no disrespect to Norman who is a tremendous photographer in his own right, but this looks like they wanted Ethan. Doesnt matter, Max Ortega is in top form. The way he understands the code of this magazine in the creatively topsy turvy world we're in is commendable.

Either way, stellar cover. One of their best this year. And let this sink in.....she got it OG, knot shared! (if you know you know)

Bloody finally. This is at least 12 years too late, but at least it finally happened for her.

It didn't occur to me what an impact she's had over the past decade plus until I watched the 'Women in Hip-Hop' docu on BBC. Grateful that they also got a photographer who's actually competent to shoot her. She looks fantastic in the cover, although I can take or leave the accompanying editorial.

I wish I saw what so many here seem to see. Cover and edit is real plain Jane, Banana Republic has better shots.

Anna has scraped the bottom of the barrel with cover stars so I guess it’s time to lift it up and go for what is underneath.

It’s a great cover. I wish it was someone else though. She doesn’t deserve to have any platform. She’s an awful person with a terrible husband

We've been conditioned, or rather I! All these experimental 'let's try something edgy' covers from American Vogue and the rest only make me wish for the more simplistic to-the-point covers. Sure there could have been an ornate gold bracelet or necklace to push it more into the Cleopatra/Nefertiti realm, but this is still much better than what they've been doing. Definitely better than last month.

nicki is the best female rapper of all time without question.
Not even top 10. But this is about the cover, she looks stunning in the cover and ed but I feel like the ed could have been alot better, its missing the story telling that used to be a Vogue editorial. These are just random shots that look like they were taken out of a portfolio. They would have gone for that 80s glam/mysterious YSL vibe like in the cropped shot of her in the hat.

Hmm… Wow!
I was more talking about Missy Elliott, Eve.
After this comment, I should leave the chat lol.
I hope you are going to buy the issue…

I have mixed feelings. Her Harajuku persona should be canceled and her continued use of Asian names/references in her songs, videos, and photos.

How could she get the cover later than Cardi B?
Nicki is the queen to rap, with talented lyrical skills

Well, Cardi got a cover first but she was just one of 4 covers, she shared January with Ashley Graham, Stella McCartney, and Greta Gerwig as well as all of their children. Nicki gets December and solo.

More of Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos by Annie Leibovitz:

I saw the Lauren and Jeff profile somewhere else first, so for a moment I was worried that they would be on the cover, lol. Thankfully it is Nicki and she looks absolutely stunning!

This cover is simple but elevated enough to feel like a return to form for Vogue. Actually, Vogue has a history of some dismal covers going way back, lol, so I’m not sure why I keep thinking there were better times. Maybe way way WAY back… but I digress. I love this cover.

I feel a bit weird loving it after seeing the controversy around Nicki herself… I struggle to put someone’s questionable associations aside in the name of fashion/art/entertainment… but whatever. Nicki looks so beautiful and she is absolutely one of the queens of rap. A true icon.

I don’t think both are linked. I don’t think Anna or anyone tbh cares about lyrical talents when putting someone on the cover.

I think Cardi represented a moment with HipHop being in full force and she elevated her fashion game quite early in her career.

Unfortunately, despite her great talent, Nicki became a huge star with questionable pop songs and an image that was maybe less aspirational for a magazine like Vogue. She has never been consistent or believable as a fashion girl weirdly, even when she worked with Rushka Bergman.

I think that this cover is out at the right time for Nicki. She is more mature, her image might be more in tune with what she wants to reflect in her music and she has a status now in the industry.

I hope her team will use it as an opportunity to help her step her fashion game up.

Is the woman of Jeff Bezos someone important to the culture or fashion?

How much did Jeff pay to get this? Ugh Miss Wintour is still the same, after all the failed attempts to appeal the Gen Z.

All I can say about the Leibovitz story is that it is certainly a choose your own adventure on post production. None of the images relate, and the colouring/filtering in each one is so off.

Nicki's is fine. Wouldn't say she's at her best, but the fashions are pretty lacking. It did make me wonder where the last issue went, thinking they skipped a month. I actually just removed it from my mind instantly the moment I saw it.
