US Vogue May 2007 World's Next Top Models by Steven Meisel

I would have to agree that Gisele was really the last of the supermodels. I've read somewhere that it was the designers, themselves, who made them act as supermodels. Gianni Versace spoiled them, Cindy, Naomi, Christy, et al, and he's gone. Does anyone really think Galliano or Jacobs could spoil them as much as Gianni did? I would know Daria, Gemma, Sasha, and their pack if not for my subscription to V but nonetheless, without someone like Gianni, Anna can't force the industry to welcome these girls and call them supermodels... or can she?

I dont think she can, then general public are not fascinated by models anymore. There used to be such intrigue with the supers, everyone wanted to know where they were, what they were doing, what they are wearing etc etc. Very few people even know the names of girls in the major campaigns. Now its all about the celebrities.. Such a shame.

^^ I think that the cover is gorgeous, simple-- but lovely. :) Well, to be honest whether you like Wintour or not(I personally don't.)-- she remains to be one of the most influencial people who work in fashion.

I dont think any of the models will be supermodels.. they dont have the classical beauties of the models before.. now their either.. extremely plain.. totally or way too unique , pretty with make up but nothing else.. of course there are some exceptions but really.. the models nowdays dont have the look that most of the public like.. people like adriana can be considered supermodels as much as I hate to admit it

I'm gunna have to agree with whoever said Kate Moss is not a sex symbol. I have never once met a guy in my life who found Kate Moss "sexy."

And tell me which guys would find the top high fashion models "sexy" with a few exceptions like Doutzen etc.. guys hardly find high fashion models "sexy"..

anyways the next supermodel(if there will ever be one) will be Doutzen Kroes.. sometimes I find her overated but she is like the models of the nineties.. her look , her body.. etc. Guys love her.. girls would probably find her appealing. She can do both commercial and high fashion( can you say that Sasha , Gemma etc could fully do loreal etcc??)

Doutzen is jsut different from the other girls. She's not particularly alien looking , or doll looking , shes beautiful in a classic way which is so lacking in the industry. So many people find high fashion models unappealing nowadays .. its just great to have doutzen there even though shes deffinitely not my fave model..

^I agree. Doutzen's the only one that has broad enough appeal.

IMO, the only ones that stand out on the cover are Chanel & Agyness (sp?)..With Chanel, it's too soon to tell how her career will progress, but I can definitely see Agyness moving on way past the other models..

I think its funny how the first ad, exactly 1 page after the cover, is with Linda Evangelista, a true icon in the industry if ever there was one!

i'm with you on that one. Out of all the girls I think Agyness came out best on the cover. Her face doesn't look wierd and the pose is lovley.

I finally got my issue this week!

the Poiret editorial is one of the best i've ever seen, i had to cut out the pages and hung them on the wall!!!!!so wonderful, dreamy, amazing. that's fashion!

Quite dissapointed in the issue. I had hoped to see Gemma and Irina on the cover. The girls did look lovely, though.

^ I could see Irina (perhaps), but why Gemma, considering she was on the supermodels cover in 2004?

I agree, that editorial was amazing. This was one of the best issues I've read in awhile - great eds, and most of the articles were very interesting.

Doutzin and I'm hoping to God Chanel Iman. But the others are just too odd. To tap into the supermodel idea you must have the budy ad face that is classic and not odd but not plain and boring like the pedestrian models of ANTM or the girls who are like "I wanna be a model!" with their annoying bleach blonde hair and fake bodies.
Bring back the Naomi's and Cristy's! If I were a designer I would pamper them.

i still wonder what the hell Chanel Iman and Aggyness were doing there instead of Natasha Poly, Freja, Lara or even Magdalena.

umm... this forum is interesting... only, like 3 models are still working in high fashion as a dead on force... looks like vogue has bad judgement on models... lets see how the new vogue cover girls are going to be like 3 years from now...

What do you mean "bad judgement"? Most models aren't around for very long periods of time. Most of them are still working models.
