US Vogue November 2005 : Reese Witherspoon by Annie Leibovitz

not a very good pic from ebay

hmm i like the background...the facial expression could def. be better though lol

it looks nice, relaxed... i just hope its not overly photoshoped, she looks so fresh... well, judging from the pic :p

She actually looks really stiff to me... I don't like it.

Reese's inside spread is always better than the cover. The only cover I haven't been disappointed in was her EW issue. I hear the June Carter spread inside is stunning, so I can't wait to see that.

US VOGUE Nov. 05 gemma/josh. resse/cash. D&G portofino.

Quick Preview of US VOGUE NOV 2005:
EDIT #1: Caroline Trentini shot by demarchelier. clean, fresh studio shoot, sweet day looks edited by Tonne Goodman. demarchelier is of course a very talented studio photog, this is one of trentini's best edits ive ever seen, [cute jeisa-like freckles] I like many of the white/cream day looks, its very spring-y. this is better than your average recent moody meisel us vogue studio shoot, its brighter & happier. some may find this slightly dull but I dont - its happy & sweet & its very good work from trentini, demarchelier & goodman. rating 6.75 of 10.

EDIT #2/BEST EDIT: gemma & josh hartnett shot by testino. honeymoon theme we've seen before with daria & kk in us vogue. this story is better than those cos of gemma. she looks great LOVE the hair & makeup here. dont usually like josh much but he's cleaner cut & well dressed here. camilla nickerson & testino did great work. 2 best pics in magazine are gemma in swimsuits, best is gottex maillot. I have wanted to see gemma's swim modelling for a long time, {to date only saw Aust vogue edit last spring} i knew her long legs & thin frame would be great in a bikini & they are. lots more white/cream/resort looks. this is testino back on top form & its been awhile in us vogue. great work all around & gemma fans are going to LOVE this edit. rating 8.25 of 10

EDIT #3: dolce & gabbana portofino vacation home. francois halard's landscape & interior pics are fantastic as always. the decor & lanscaping of D&G's summer house is just amazing, incl michael lin's hawaiian flowered wall painting, gold bed & bedroom, lucio fontana slashed blue painting, 'love' neon sculpture/sign, architectural views of 1990-era house, the pool area...if you like southern italy, decorating, architectural/vacation snaps, and/or D&G you will really love this edit. its just a superb scenery & decor photoshoot. rating 8.25 of 10.

EDIT #4/COVER: resse witherspoon & joaquin phoenix as june & johnny cash from new bio-pic. this is among best liebowitz edits since she joined vogue about 4 years ago. its exactly like one of her excellent vanity fair 90s movie stars/movie stills edit. the film is of interest as johnny cash & june made so much great music & its such an american roots & culture love story. dolly parton & steve earle are pictured. liebowitz has the benfit of the great movie sets [looks like tennessee?],props, costumes etc. but still compared to the cate blanchett/"Avaiator" coverstory, this is MUCH better, and makes you want to see the movie. Love the cover too, reese looks awesome, great hair make up & vera wang bottle green dress. its the best vogue cover by liebowitz I can recall. its also much more like a classic 80s/90s vogue cover, nice fresh model in attractive outdoors setting, as opposed to so many gimmicky & over-done liebowitz stories/covers [drew barrymore] and so many other celeb covers we hated so [J. Lo]. also among best joaquin phoenix looks Ive seen, usually never liked him. hopefully he's a good johnny cash. this is a laudable vogue/liebowitz/celeb/film story like some of her best vanity fair 90s work. camilla nickerson & liebowitz totally made it work. rating 8.25 of 10.
[liebowitz' natalia 'alice in wonderland' edit was still far better tahn this, though].

Feature: david lauren & lauren bush fighting AIDS in sub-saharan africa. the cause is very worthy. the laurens cant help but look prissy over-dressed & slumming here...I think bush is charming but this story is slightly silly despite the very real & significant cause.

edit: art dealer melissa bent, writer andrea ashworth & jac wheeler shot by jon becker. alex kotur styled some nice boho looks. becker's pics of jac in morocco & bent in france w/calder mobile are nice. slightly better pics than becker usually manages. 3 pages of shopping accompany this. some of you will like this, some of you will yawn. becker's pics & these substance-ish women come off pretty well. rating 6.25 of 10.

edit: CFDA/ vogue new designer awards. pics by norman jean roy. my faves/pics are thom brown & trovata. the pics are ok but really docu-style except browne. jessica diehl edited. i guess each of us will have our faves in this group of 10 young designers. this edit is not that interesting but I do like browne & trovata & its nice to see new-er names in vogue. rating 5 of 10.

QUICK VERDICT: thats the main edits/features, i didnt read the 1st half of the mag yet/articles. with 4 excellent edits [gemma, trentini, D&G, reese] this is a surprisngly successful us vogue. the only truly great pics for me were gemma, that honeymoon edit actually exceeded expectations. I knew that gemma is a brilliant swim model, now its time for every other mag & designer to show it as testino did well here. the D&G vacation house story is also superb. liebowitz' resse/cash story & cover is among her best work for vogue since 2000. decmarchelier's trentini spring edit was a good way to start off this edition on a a happy note. the becker, laurens & roy edits under-performed but they made up adequate back of book pics/articles. this is so much better than the nov bazaar theres no comparison. its not as edgy or novel as nov W [ford, gemma/knight, kate], but its nearly equal as far as overall quality of a nov fash mag.
and importantly, gemma shines in both nov w & vogue- shes one of the 3 or 4 most importnat models this century & her swim pics in vogue are swoonsome. the cash biopic looks great too. RATING TWO THUMBS UP BUY IT!!!!

^wow, thanks a lot for this review! i'm really looking forward to this issue now.....

as for the cover: rather boring, really.....need i say more?

I actually enjoy the content a lot although I am not fond of the cover. The "what works for work" is very interesting to read (although all the outfits are so expensive that few people IRL would really dress like that). The resort pictures are nice, too.

Thanks for the excellent review!:flower: Can't wait to see it, but mine is always weeks late in the mail:angry:

Very baad cover omg  is equal of the last cover opf Resse in VanityFair by Annie

Here's a larger picture of the cover. It's not as bad as I originally thought.

i love her dress, she lose some weigths

The dress is definately beautiful and I adore the background. However, my first thoughts when I saw this cover was that it looked so familiar. I thought for sure I had seen this cover before! And that, of course, is not a good thing.

Thanks for posting!

Yes, I was thinking that as well...
I do definitely like it more now... but I still think her expression is all wrong. The dress and the background is lovely, like Fabulyss said, and so I've decided if there was a model instead of Reese, doing something more creative, I'd love this.

^^agreed....the dress and the background are beautiful...
and from the neck down reese looks good....:ninja:
but that girl's face is expressionless.....lifeless.....she looks uncomfortable and awkward and so out of place....
its such a shame....so much potential here....
i also think the pink is a bit loud....should have been slightly paler....prettier....

The cover feels like I've seen it before. Like Reese has posed in that way before. Oh found it, it's similar to her Vanity Fair cover.

Ok not exact, but it has a similar feel.
