Vanity Fair Italia February 2023 : Madonna by Luigi & Iango

This is actually a beautiful set of images. Yeah they're all decked out in their attire and putting on bit of a character, but Madonna just looks like she's having a f*cking ball! It isn't overly constructed, it's just her throwing sh*t and enjoying a good laugh. I mean it might be overly constructed but feels pretty genuine too.

Wish the rest of the editorial was a bit more like this. It is bit of a tired aesthetic from her, so the grounded feel of these images breaks it up nicely.

Nice concept
Amazing photographs
Horrible plastic surgerys

A mix between Walker and Roversi. Indeed lovely story.

That close-up is unnecessary. There are old Gaultier and Galliano but they really should have used Lacroix hc fw 2002 masks she once wore to cover that face

The entire shoot is glorious, and this short film is amazing!
After 40 years, Madonna is still delivering this kind of stunning visual art.
Luigi and Iango are great collaborators for her, and always bring their A game.
Vanity Fair Italy, France, and Spain really won, over the American version.

The Spanish (monthly) issue has 132 pgs. The editor's letter mentions the same decision to honour a leading figure each year in Vanity Fair Italia, España and France. There's a reprint of a recent Tatler fashion editorial (the one that looked a bit Bloomsbury). You get the Madonna editorial but it's not padded out with unnecessary 'blank' pages like in the Italian version, then there's also the Almodóvar and Galliano articles.

There are also articles about Hermès on Broadway, an American millionaire's passion for Spanish art, and lots of smaller pieces that are actually about glamour, celebrity, TV and cinema, the performing arts, all the things that US Vanity Fair doesn't provide.

Awaiting the French version...

Stunning editorial, i didn't notice than Guinevere, Binx & Sara Grace were part of this spread. The result of the feature is great & amazing.

The French version has 124 pgs. The Madonna section has the same images, but not all of them are full-page, and the Galliano and Almodóvar tributes are also condensed in design. Despite being dedicated to an icon, Madonna does not feel like the focal point of this issue, she's just content amid many other articles, including ones about Laura Dern, and photographer Olivier Metzger, there's also a reprint of a US Vanity Fair story about film score composers, and a reprint of a Tatler fashion editorial.

I usually prefer the French version, but this time, I would probably get the Spanish one.

I can’t help but think you’re in a deathly place when you’re reprinting Tatler editorials.

It seems a Vogue lifts from another Vogue, staying on their own level, while the Euro Vanity Fairs might reprint a fashion editorial from Tatler, sharing content at that tier.

With the Euro Vogues, as soon as you hit the main fashion pages, there's now nothing unique going on, and that's supposed to be the heart of the magazine. The fashion element in a Euro Vanity Fair isn't the main draw of the issue, so a Tatler reprint doesn't seem that bad, but this 'shared cover Madonna feature' shows that the squeeze is definitely on. The higher the proportion of reprinted content, the more they're following the death spiral of the Vogues.

I really don't care that Madonna is doing cosmetic stuff, but I honestly wish it didn't come off so sad and like she's striving to be a shadow of her younger self. You're a legend, lady, own it! Doesn't mean I'm not going to be in line for tickets to her tour though.
