Vanity Fair Italia October 4, 2023 by Luigi & Iango

Oh, so being a world famous iconic supermodel doesn’t count then? And while we're at it I suppose you're not going to qualify her hundreds of covers, campaigns, editorials, and endorsements? Also, out of all of the women on the cover, which one is actually a household name? Any excuse to exclude her from anything like this is completely invalid. It was more than likely a scheduling conflict like someone else mentioned. Or perhaps they couldn't afford her. :P

These are all women that literally opened doors for others including Gisele, would have been nice to see Beverly too. Cindy walked so Gisele would run. This seems to mostly feature 60s to early 90s supermodels. If Gisele was there then Natalia V and others from that generation would also be there.

Gisele is same late 90th as Murphy. Who is Murphy (just an industry darling) and who is Gisele

Thought Murphy was the Shalom/Amber/Kristy Hume(who should have been here) generation that came right after Kate Moss. She's 49 yo same as Amber and Shalom, the ones that came during the infamous Heroin Chic era. But then Elle and Leticia aren't featured either. Gisele came in the mid 90s but she hit in the late 90s/2000s.

I actually read in interviews and some internet blogs that Gisele has in her contract that she rarely likes to pose with other models so perhaps on top of the scheduling issues / editorial choices from the magazine and photographer, then it could also have been Gisele who refused to pose with other supers.

Also, out of all of the women on the cover, which one is actually a household name?

We could pretend that Carla Bruni is unknown in France, that Germany has laws forbidding the mention of Claudia Schiffer's name, that no-one in the UK has ever heard of Naomi Campbell, and Cindy Crawford... well, she's just starting out. Marriage to a major film star, and multiple worldwide covers and contracts, including an appearance in Playboy and a superbowl Pepsi commercial? Dream on, Cynthia Ann Crawford.

Only on tFS do people want their favourite models to be included in one of the most embarrassing fashion magazine covers in recent memory… I don’t get it.

Gisele had her multi-cover moment earlier this year, when she gave an interview to US Vanity Fair for the April issue, which got reprinted across the other editions.

Those solo covers and ed are more supermodel than what Anna and Edward produced.

So far, I've only seen the exact same group shot promoted as the print cover of any edition (i.e. shown with full coverlines / barcodes). The others might be digital.

Are they even selling those solo covers?

Apparently yes, all covers are printed too which I didn't think they would do.

Never noticed how great Carolyn's shot was before seeing it in that pile.

The group shot one is the only issue with a barcode on it. Are the other ones for subscribers?

Looking at my library's digital copy of Vanity Fair Italia, this issue is dated 4 October 2023, and it's 168 pages. The supermodel content spans pages 47-98. While there are lots of adverts, there isn't any high fashion content in the rest of the issue, it's the typical general content of any weekly/fortnightly magazine.

Looking at Vanity Fair France, the October issue has 160 pages. Some images from Rita Ora's recent Tatler cover story are reprinted at the front. The supermodel content spans pages 44 to 105. While the imagery is probably the same, there are more full-page shots in the French edition. There are also two accessory editorials in this issue, plus the usual heavier monthly Vanity Fair type of articles.

No sight yet of the Spanish edition for comparison purposes.

To add - my library's digital copy of the Spanish edition is showing 132 pages. At the front of the issue, there's a reprint of a fashion editorial with a musical theme from UK Tatler (not unusual these days for Euro Vanity Fairs to reprint from Tatler) and the supermodel content spans pages 58 to 85.

I find it hard to get hold of VF Italia, but I'll probably buy a copy of both the French and Spanish editions, because of variance between the reprints, and the images that get included or appear as full-page shots.

Also, the paper quality of the French and/or Spanish monthly editions might be slightly better than the flimsy Italian one, as mentioned by @johnxty last week.

The group cover seems a tad bit tolerable in print than online.

I think they printed the solo covers and made a mock up because none of these are on sale...you can only find the group shot...i agree with @Urban Stylin it's better in print than online....

The magazines are different, which is nice.

Vanity Fair France shows 63 pages of the work of Luigi and Iango : 8 pages of text (or title) and 55 pages for the photos. Each model has 2 portraits except Elisabetta Desy, Naomi Campbell, Penelope Tree, Lauren Hutton, Twiggy, Carolyn Murphy, Kirsten Owen and Paulina Poriskova with 3 photos.

Vanity Fair Espana offers a total of 28 pages for this : 6 pages of text (and title) and "only" 22 pages for the photos. Each model has 1 portrait.

and France and Spain also has the foldout cover?

So we are talking same inside photos?

ok let's be practical :

source : Vanity Fair France digital edition and Vanity Fair Espana digital edition

France :

Notice that I include in this preview two pages about Kate Moss even if it has nothing to do with the portfolio.

Spain :

Now you can find which portraits are different or the same.

I'm here for Eva Herzigova and each edition have a different portrait !

They are not even trying to hide it that the cover is a collage in french edition. They removed Stephanie and Milla and Murphy is placed differently in inside group shot

In fact no. Murphy was already established when Gisele came over. She came on to the scene in 1995 if I remember well.
Even if Gisele started at 14, in fashion you only matter when you have your breakthrough and her breakthrough was in 1997.

Even if 2 years is not a lot, Gisele represented the return to athletic bodies compared to the H chic look.

Anyway, Gisele’s generation is not included ( Carmen Kass, Angela Lindvall, Maggie Rizzer, Oluchi Onweagba, Alek Wek, Devon Aoki) so it would have been ridiculous to have her there.
