yes! definitely... the last dress i posted from this year's MJ collection also reminded me of some of his previous work... must have been that same collection.
i don't know if i could pull of something like that myself but in theory i love the look it
^ that last dress is incredible!
A rather difficult color and material to pull off but it just looks wonderful.. I'm thinking the best way to go with velvet dresses is with that draped/20s shape, it adds a more natural volume. Also love the idea of a velvet scarf , but more in black, like those Ann Demeulemeester did a few seasons ago (for her menswear show, I believe).
i think the nanette lepore dresses are quite beautiful as well.. the way the light plays on that deep mossy green with the drapes and folds is really lovely
and i agree about those 20s shapes and silhouettes.. i think that's why the light colored MJ look and that last anna sui look is so successful and well done
This is one of those trends that I really just have a hard time wrapping my head around, velvet is such an unpleasant fabric - it feels nice but it just looks so bad most of the time. I've been putting together a compilation of all the red velvet looks this season and 9 out of 10 of them just look tacky to me.
Perhaps it is because velvet just reminds me of the old couch my parents had in the basement when I was growing up
