Viktor & Rolf for H&M

I just read this on Vogue UK's site- I'm very surprised! Somehow, Viktor & Rolf and H&M don't go together in my head. "Conceptual" vs. "Popular". The collection might be great though...

I will reserve judgement until I see the collection but honestly....I think Viktor & Rolf are exactly the type of designer that SHOULDN'T do these design collaborations.....

agreed.. ;)
all this sounds like the 'end of fashion' to me..

as for their La Redoute collaboration, its certainly not the same thing as h&m, La Redoute has much more quality than h&m :p

Honestly, three years ago I would have bee stunned but really judging from their antics these last few seasons it fits somehow. And like I said,in 2003 in an interview in Interview they bluntly said they wanted to achieve globalised success. And btw, they're also working with the most commercial cosmetics company in L'Oreal who did their scents so it's coming to head, quite sadly. They have so much talent but to spoil it by wanting to be another Tommy Hilfiger just doesn't bode well. So I can understand where you're coming from susie, indefinitely. But personally,I've given up on them.

i certainly dont think they need h&m to reach 'global' status, they already have global status by now..
at the monet they seriously risk their L'Oreal sponsoring with signing for an h&m line, this is real cheap selling out, i feel pitty for them, they cant be going this bad with thier own line

(on the other hand, maybe they are..)

i think H&M's investors will be furious if it is as limited as stella's items were.
H&M has had really crappy sales these last few months.

This will be bigger than the Stella collaboration and I read that that it will be comparable to the Lagerfeld collaboration in terms of items and so on.

It's like they have had the fashion success but now want to see the money. Well, I can't blame them for that. Unlike some other designers like Karl Lagerfeld, they have to create a brand and not just fashion. Also, they aren't supported by a big fashion group like LVMH or the Gucci Group so they probably can use the money. And they're not too conceptual anymore. What is in the stores now is not conceptual at all.

tell us more! i think it would also have been wiser for H&M to follow target by making the consumer visit the store more often as is the plan for the "go international" series.

I can't wait. Does anyone know when we can expect to see it in stores?

November. you have a long wait.

I love victor and rolf, but I have trouble picturing them w/ H&M. H&M seems to me to be younger and more trend oriented, and Victor and rolf seem to be geared toward a more sophistocated demographic? Perhaps I'm wrong

if it ain't Dutch it ain't much , we dutch are traders by nature..
but not a big pocket to go marketeering as the french or italo , so quality floats. luv it.

Don't sure what you mean but i read an interview with the COI and she said today that most likely it will be as or quite near big as the Lagerfeld collection. She also said that H&M will do a lot of PR to enlighten the H&M costumers about Viktor & Rolf and who "they are".

I  Monsieur, their menswear is really wearable and I'm so excited to see what they come up with. Made my day! I will be the first in line but judging from the reactions, I don't think there will be a line. ^_^

Alas we can shop in peace. I seldom, if ever, hear about Viktor & Rolf in the states so I doubt many people will pick up on this even if it is H&M.

I wondered about that too.

sadly, i think the ebayer resellers will be out in full force.

I'm exited! I hope they do men's wear as well. I hope H&M LA is open by then.

V&R have been making some very commercial but very cute things the last couple seasons, which I suspect is what most of this will looks like. Shorts with bows, double collar shirts, tuxedo jackets with flower pins, sequin tunics....

i'm also a fan of their Monsieur line, their menswear, yes could 'happen' well for h&m. but not their womanswear

they are not 'pop' enough for the h&m client
