Vintage!

I bought a 50s tweed blanket coat online yesterday. I like to touch and inspect vintage stuff but the description of the coat was really thorough and it is just what I've been looking out for.

The tweed looks a lot like the Dries' tweed- I hope it feels the same :P I was coveting one of his vests awhile back that is a similar combo of colors. The velvet is supposed to be lux and  how you can wrap the collar around or head or fold over your shoulders-- I hope its as nice as the pics . . .

Glad this topic was renewed- love your coats SoCalledPrep- you're in PA, right? best thrift shopping!!

Found yesterday the new favourites among my shoes. Black satin, perfect height, sequins and beads making a flower at the front and side. I've been admiring them all day. :brows:

That coat looks like a good hot-water bottle paprika.

reminds me of something that I could find on the fall LV runway, nice :flower:

My grandmothers old wallet (clutch?). My sister has it now, I'm borrowing it to try to make a simular one. the wallet (clutch?) has real feathers stuck to it, they're all stiff so they can't be messed up. :flower:
I'm trying to figure out what was used to stiff the feathers... hard to see

I'm not sure if it's a wallet or clutch, in Icelandic we have so few words over hand bags, wallets and stuff :P And I haven't been doing my homework all too well, just fell for handbags recently :innocent:

Once you get the feathers on the piece you are making, you can use a lightweight clear varnish called "shellac" in English to make the feathers stiff and adhere them more thoroughly. You can often get shellac in aerosol cans. You would just need to spray a coat of shellac on the finished bag, let it dry, and spray on a second coat.

I have a vintage hat from the 1950s which was made very similarly. I like it but most other people I know find it disgusting.

I promised to this for strawberry a while back...

And then, I thought, while I was at it- I'd retake the others.

The red is the most expensive of my vintage pieces, I don't remember how much it cost me, but it was a bigger decision to buy. There were two issues with it, the first being that the cuffs are real fur and that I'm a vegetarian. This is the only piece that I own though, I've got a bit of guilty weakness for fur. The other problem was the sizing, the chest's a bit large which means that the cut is off. I love it still though, definitely a dress that makes me feel grown-up.

This next one isn't actually straight vintage, just vintage style. It cost me ten dollars at Zara, reduced from like $200. It's one of my favourite dresses, and I've only worn it twice, once at the store and the second time just now. The white disks fall off really esily, so I've resolved that I'm going to wear it for one night of crazy retro style in the future and then lay it to rest.

Here's the bottom of the white one... I'm going to have to come and take the others in a second.

And if anyone actually knows of the Japanese group called Pizzicato Five, in the music video of Playboy Playgirl, she's wearing a dress almost the same as this one.

Alright. This dress actually does fit me perfectly, we got it altered. It's really long as well and reaches just below my ankles. I remember that I bought it at the Vintage Clothing Show and changed into it for the day.

Thanks for the visual aids purple. :P
Now I'm dying, once more, to hit the shops. You may all follow should you like...

Not a problem, I do love my stuff. I actually did go out for vintage clothing today, but didn't see anything that I thought really stood out.
This one's just yellow brocade, I wish I had a nice pencil skirt to go with it...
I'm very nearly done- my prom dress, which is my favourite. Can you tell I adore yellow?

Purple, every time I'm out and about, I keep seeing things/people/dresses and wishing you could see them.

There's so much of you in the world, when you stop and look  :woot:

What a wonderful thought, I actually wish I could see them as well!
 And that's awfully nice of you... such a lovely way of putting it.

I'm finally done now. The shoes are only in the style, but they seemed to fit.

I've just realized that a couple of my shoes are actually technically vintage as well... These belonged to my mum during the 70's, which is why they don't fit me properly. She has the tiniest feet! :o
