Virginie Viard - Designer

I wish she would release a statement apologizing for releasing the worst CHANEL look ever created, Karl was capable of designing some cringe ugly stuff, but never reached this level of crap...and the audacity to show this on a couture runway! Oh Virginie...between this and the beaten up woman's eye makeup

I can't believe that they would let that through

Virginie reminds me of Alessandra Facchinetti in a way; both have - or had back in the day - a great sense of personal style which was one of the reasons why some prominent fashion designers put their eyes on them but somehow they never could translate that into compelling ideas.

She does look relaxed; I guess she's happier spending her time reading feminist literature while Olivia Rodrigo is playing in the background.

Alessandra is still a competent designer though. I think Virginie loves clothes, loves costumes but I’m not sure she has that « designer » vision.

I am surprised to learn that Theyskens and Scott used to be part of Karl's team!

They weren’t part of his team. They were his protégées. But I remember that Theyskens’s boyfriend was part of one of Karl’s team at some point.
Apart from Victoire de Castellane and Herve Leger, I don’t think anybody from Karl’s Parisian teams ever had a note-worthy career as a designer.

Gilles Dufour for his cute designs while it lasted (he is now making big bucks with Erdos)
Lucien Pellat-Finet was freelance for Karl (and Yves).

Ok you are very generous. Even Eric Wright who then went to Façonnable wouldn’t count as having a note worthy career.
I like Pellat Finet latest alteration of his brand (now that he is dead I wonder how the Z&V people are going to handle it) and all but those are not really flamboyant careers. It doesn’t have to be that way either.

Maybe Dufour’s talent was elsewhere and he didn’t exploited it. Vincent Darre worked for Karl, mainly at Fendi but he has made a name for himself outside of fashion (his Moschino and Ungaro weren’t that terrible).

^The interiors at Schiaparelli's first revival pre-Roseberry was done by Vincent Darré, the surrealist chairs and lobster meuble. He's mostly known as a party figure in Paris though, everyone loves him.
Yes he is a little star. He is doing collaborations with Monoprix, he is often invited on TV, he was mentor to many people like Charlotte Chesnais but when we think about the talents from the Karl universe who really made a real impact on fashion, they were mostly working at Fendi. Vanessa Seward, Camille Miceli also worked with Karl at Chanel but for me, they owes it more to Gilles as they were the best friends of his nieces.

Even Vaccarello worked at Fendi even if he quickly moved on because Karl wasn’t spending that much time in the studio.
