Vogue Australia December 2015 : Cate Blanchett by Will Davidson

Styled by Christine Centenera. I should also mention 2015 has been the first time in YEARS (maybe even a DECADE?) that Vogue Australia has not had re-prints fronting their covers. It's been a very strong year for them.

Thanks for the uploads, Al92! Looking forward to her edit. It is quite remarkable for them to produce their own content for an entire year. I remember years ago this magazine used to be quite a joke on TFS with all their reprints. People didnt even care about the content. Then Edwina stepped in with that stunning Bella Heathcote cover........

My pleasure Benn98!

It is quite extraordinary what Edwina and her team has managed to do and achieve in 3 years. Looking back at past Vogue Australia threads circa 2006-2010, the magazine was lambasted by TFS members and quite rightly too - just unoriginal and lacklustre content.

Cate has a new film coming out, it has been building and generating Oscar buzz. They obviously need a momentum going. Other films have their stars on other covers.

And I really like how glowing her skin is here.

Aside from the garish, belted dress and artificial, over-exposed studio lighting just on Cate's face, that's actually a beautiful cover.

That black masthead is very striking and ties in nicely with the dress ruffles/detailing. Plus the cover lines are thoughtfully spaced out and italicized.

I wonder if there's some sort of sheen/finish on the masthead lettering? It looks a bit washed out compared to the deep rich black ruffles on Cate's dress..

Wow, that's pretty commendable in the Australian magazine market. Thanks for pointing that out AL92!

As for this cover. It's fine to me. It reminds me of a US Vogue cover. I like the way the headlines don't crowd Cate. The dress (Louis Vuitton?) is kind of festive I suppose, in colour. Though, I'm still a sucker for some glitter and sequins for a December issue - no one here seems to do it anymore!!

BS. Kirstie Clements was MUCH loved around tFS and every cover she put out was gushed over. Edwina McCann has just followed her formula.

I've been a longtime member of TFS however my memory may be incorrect, but I feel that the reception Kirstie Clements had on here was mixed. [eg http://forums.thefashionspot.com/f7...rmer-editor-chief-vogue-australia-46302.html]
Though really, I'd say that there are few editors here who are beloved. Perhaps Alexandra Shulman? She's my personal favourite at least :p

She's just flawless. You can put her in a potato-sack and she will look like a million bucks.

Majority of the posts in that thread are in support of Clements.

She is the one who came up with the formula of using predominantly Australians on the covers. She is the one who took chances on girls like Abbey Lee, Samantha Harris, etc. She used a plus size model in a time when nobody else was.

So congrats to McCann for keeping the ship afloat, but certainly nothing she is doing these days is groundbreaking. (Dare I say she's even fallen into a bit of a rut).

People have short memories.

I like these colors but is not her best cover. I think Gemma Ward would be great styling in that way.

I like Cate, at least they made her look good this time.

Still think Clements' covers had a certain something that this team is mostly lacking. Maybe they're designing covers by numbers of, 'x cover sold well, we'll do another one in the same format!' Repeat ad naseum.

I don't hate it, so that's something. It just kind of bores me.

Tbh I've barely flipped through the last few issues. They're sitting there...just haven't devoured them like I used to. That could just be me though, and not an inditement on the actual content etc.

Maybe I should be buying Womankind magazine....

I had no idea that Cate was on the cover of Vogue AU too. I've just done a posting on W December.
However overexposed Cate has been, she looks great on this cover. Love the peachy/coral toned makeup on her. It suits her very well and also goes well with the clothes.

Cate Blanchett, queen of all that's beautiful!

Can't wait for the rest of the pictures and article!

^I think that would have been a better cover... what is with Vogue editions choosing the wrong covers for December?! :P
