Vogue Germany January 2019 : Helene Fischer by Peter Lindbergh

I'm not convinced many occasional VG readers will pick this up on newsstands either - but maybe Brigitte readers will.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

That's why I'm so amazed as well because she's so far removed from Vogue Germany. Arp has been working really hard to keep the magazine less commercial and she went with the most commercial singer for the anniversary cover. Beggars belief!

Really not knowledgeable about the German audience, but does Arp really think that this is an art direction that is acceptable to the average reader? I one can easily look at Bazaar Germany and see the stark difference

Well, while the cover may be awful, the editorial certainly isn't. I'd lie if I say her presence in this edit isn't astounding. Helene Fischer made me to eat crow! And how does Lindbergh deliver such awful covers yet amazing edits?

Page count is 221, along with a Horoscope supplement of 37 pages. Total count - 258 pages.

how you can make a cover from a picture like this

I love Tasha and her ed is quite good. But the entire concept of street shots combined with studio shots and polaroids feels a bit too I&V.

From the cover, art direction, to the main editorials, this magazine is a consistent offender.

Oh dear. This looks like the love child of NYLON and US ELLE on their worst months. The art direction is horrendous.

What’s the point of using that Gertner photo reprint from Art Partner? Her work is naively charming and at times energizing. However this selected photo is a cluncker which looks completely out of place and adds nothing. Not even going there with that Collins beauty ed.

Is Helene known for her dance movements, physicality on stage? This feels try hard, wanting desperately to be taken seriously. The concept been done before, beautifully so in fact but in those instances it fit into the context of the editorial. I’m thinking McMenamy in the spirit of Diaghilev and Madonna channeling Martha Graham for 90s US Bazaar.

Tasha looks incredible as always but the mood is too all over the map aesthetically. One minute Roversi-esque, then Lindbergh, Sgura.

This issue is giving me a headache looking at the various busy editorials. The magazine would benefit greatly from a less is more mantra; and what they do present make it impactful and meaningful.

She's not really like a Jennifer Lopez when it comes to live performances, but she's very much into Zumba, acrobatics, circus fitness, and the like. Also, she collaborated with Circque De Soleil which demanded a heavy physical input from her side. So I can go with your theory of her wanting to be taken seriously with these movement poses. I do still like the final result of the edit, but I'm thinking it's a bit low on fashion. I feel like that always happens with artistic dance editorials and I'm not sure why stylists always skimp on the clothes. Over the years so many designers have collaborated with dance companies to create memorable collections, most recently Balmain.
