Vogue Italia February 2024 by Mark Kean

Inside: worst than expected

Why bother??

The fact that they thought that maroon would look nice in a group shot. The models that are just standing there and I dont even blame them since we have seen amazing work from many of them. Hopefully there are single shots.

On my previous post you’ll see a preview and it’s just 2/3 models per shot…

This was photographed back in September, after shows. None of the girls they cast have gone on to do very much (so far). Confusing casting from Rosie Vogel, the girls don't look like cover material.

My library's digital copy is showing 204 pages. The editor's letter talks a lot about "Generation Z". (As an aside, I'm tired of the classification of the world in terms of Generation XYZ, like everyone's stuck in the same class in school for life.)

In the Contents pages, an old cover image with Vittoria is printed larger than the actual cover look. Even they know.

Just before the main editorial section starts, there's a big section of Gucci advertising - probably the same gatefold series as in Feb 24 UK Vogue.

There's not much to redeem the cover story, which is followed by a reprint of Jack Davison's "New Horizons" edit from UK Vogue, a reprint of the Lila Moss / Sabato de Sarno shoot JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN'T GET ENOUGH GUCCI ALREADY, followed by a studio-shot editorial by Scott Trindle with Sora Choi and America Gonzales, I can't remember where this reprint is from, followed by a reprint of Usher and Carolyn Murphy, followed by another reprint from UK Vogue of Liu Wen walking in the street.

This issue - shoving the Gooch in your face and down your throat. You WILL like it, because you'll never see the end of it for the next few collections of reprints masquerading as new issues of Vogue.

Remember the time when VI put an almost unknown girl and made her the most-wanted girl?...

more pics from the ed

There's not one ounce of creative thought behind these photos. It's alarming how quickly this edition has lost the branding Franco curated throughout her tenure at VI.

At this point, the less we see of Vogue Italia, the better.

This is bad beyond bad. It's as if they fired every talented person from fashion magazines

I don’t know why you all are expecting something from editions that don’t have EIC and have Head of Content who were hired only with a promise to increase diversity and reflect Social Media culture in the pages of the magazine.

Fashion and POV was never a promise, never!

I’m surprised they didn’t used « ANCORA » as a tag line!
That Gucci marketing as annoying as it is works!

Of course, terrible cover and Ed. But there’s nothing to expect.

That was Steven's magic. Though he's been recurrent with some models, the time he discovered someone new and made that person a star... Jesus, I do miss those times too. Vittoria, as she's quoted on the cover look page, was the ultimate model he discovered doing VI. Sadly both had only that chance because it was Franca's final year. Wish he did the same at British Vogue, but Edward only offered him to shot celebs and more mediatic models. If you look all the Italian Vogue cover girls from 1988 to 2016, mostly of them started their career because this magazine (and American Vogue in the 90s). What a gifted person he is!
