Vogue Italia June 2011 : Candice Huffine, Tara-Lynn & Robyn Lawley by Steven Meisel

I dont want to sound mean but that editorial with the plus size models is really blah and annoying. I dont like it at all. I wish VI would get some new ideas!

I think the main ed is lovely. My main qualm is that it is black and white. I wish they had done it in color instead of that faux vintage thing. More modern...

Moderators' Note:

This thread is being temporarily closed for clean up.

It has moved way too far into "weight talk", which is not allowed on the Fashion Spot. If you receive a PM that your post or posts were removed, you should know that you were too far over the line. (If a post was removed, but you do not receive a notice, then most likely you just responded to another post that was deleted, so now your comment no longer makes sense and was removed as part of the clean up.)

To clarify "Weight Talk" which is not allowed:

We understand that "plus models" are a legitmate part of the modeling business and that several magazines have issues and/or editorials that feature them. Therefore, it is OK to talk about the use of plus models in this editorial regarding the concept, etc. You may use the word "curvy" only to describe the plus model "standard" as opposed to not having curves which is the standard for regular fashion models. So, "curvy" and "plus" may both be used when describing these models.

However, it is not OK to talk about whether they or any other models are "fat, skinny, heavy, big, thin, gaunt" or use any other descriptive words like that. Also, remember that tFS is never the place to discuss what you personally think about the size of plus models or any other models in relationship to "normal" people. It's not relevant to fashion modeling, anyway.

Be very careful ... it's a rather delicate balance.

Oh dear, it's just beyond gorgeous. Looks like something Ellen von Unwerth would shoot, so sensual, feminine and captivating, absolutely marvellous. Definitely my favourite main VI editorial from ages.

Adore it.

^The theme is indeed very Unwerth, but I feel that this Meisel ed is softer compared to Unwerth's usual harder more saturated style.

Jessie J's article is breathtaking... she has such a unique look; she would have probably found a bit of success as a fashion model.

As for the cover... all I'm going to say is; how many black models have you seen in the pages of VI since the All Black Issue? I'll never understand the rampant Vogue Italia worship- they love "social commentary" the same way Carine's Vogue Paris loved ruffling etiquette feathers. I truly don't believe that they try to challenge our views of beauty; I think they just know what issues are hot and will sell.

Put your money where your mouth is, Vogue Italia. Then we'll talk.

^That is an interesting ed. Some of the poses are just not flattering - there are different poses that work for different shapes after all. The first and third are wonderful, however....the third is rather Bourdin.

What a beautiful story, I'm loving the last shot so much :crush:

So good to see Jamie!

Wow, Jamie's story is awesome and I don't know who Jessie J is, but her editorial is interesting as well.-

If by 'flattering' you mean, you would think they should try to make her look smaller or her body somehow less confronting to you, then you aren't getting the point of them using her in the first place. Why must every model conform to the same standard??

Clearly the eds at VI are happy enough with the pictures they chose... peace out. :innocent:

Personally, the thought I got from that post was that some photographers are perhaps not yet used to working with these models, so not every shot is going to be glorious due to their relative inexperience with them. Everyone - whatever size and shape - has their best angles, and while the model might know her poses, it might take longer for fashion photographers to catch up and produce consistently stunning imagery of these girls.

That said, this issue looked even better in reality, and when buying it, my only disappointment was that it didn't come with a supplement.
