Vogue Italia November 2009 : Rianne ten Haken by Steven Meisel

i can olny think about 1 thing of this cover: rich trashy girl from the 80's.
love the ed. though, it's very strong!

Well don't call it a comeback...I'll wait for a few months before I start saying that. Pretty much agree with everyone else, not mad on the cover but the ed is very good...but incredibly Steven Klein in parts. And I'm not sure I get the story completely either. I'm sure Lori styled again.

I have a good feeling about the overall issue for some reason...

I always try not to look at the main editorial before I get the issue ('cept for maybe one picture to get the general drift of it) so I can't really comment on it, but I'm excited to get the issue in my hands and see it in real! It looks interesting - when I heard it was gonna be only girl I expected a studio shoot, so it's so nice to see Meisel take his camera outdoors again.

I don't really know what to think about the cover on the other hand... Rianne looks great, and I like the blurred effect, but other than that I HATE the font and overall it's a little dull. But then again we don't always need to have out there, radically different covers like last month's - maybe a great model is enough? As you can see, I probably should have formulated a concrete opinion before rambling on here! Sorry!

Swine flu?

Not really getting the editorial yet but I'm not a fan of the colours. I love the model choice though!

That's the first thing that came to my mind as well ! But I have no idea what gaudy, tacky Eighties Dynasty styling has to do with a pandemic! Or maybe this edit is just a call for minimalism? The ridiculous over-the-top clothes Rianne wears certainly contrast the austere but elegant black and white the quarantiners are dressed in.

so true. all the clinical/villain atmosphere screams 'Klein'. but that over-the-top styling and some sort of grand couture feel to the model's gestures make them pretty much Meisel. Klein wouldn't bring so much frilly drama into his imagery, to my opinion.
this make me wonder. if Klein handled Safe's reference would he come up with the result more impressive than that of Meisel's spread?

why does everyone dislike the cover? i love it. im confused. haha

So tired of Rianne. Why did she come back?.. Wish there was someone else instead of her. The last Vogue Italia cover I liked was the Anna J, Anna S and Viktoriya S one (January I guess).

i like it too. except it looks a little hazy.

maybe people just cant get over the fact that it's Rianne again. I think she's gorgeous in her own right. And very interesting and powerful looking unlike many other models who just sit their with a bland bored look on their face with their mouth open and pass off as "fierce".

I get a Steven Klein vibe as well.

i Think is tim,e watch other photographer in the cover of Italia Vogue Meisel repeat much the stories and the style

i didn't look at this thread until now because i thought it was for last month's issue haha.
eh cover, great ed!

I love it! I keep coming back to this thread to look at it, thinking how great it will look on my coffee table

I have the same thing. The cover is so striking. Love it.

The cover is wonderful.
I surprised she looks very similar to Iris S. on the b&w shots...
