Vogue Japan February 2016 : Doutzen Kroes by Patrick Demarchelier

Lol, this is laughable. Sure this is under Sguro+Dello ruso. What a waste.

Glad to see Doutzen on the cover, but really, the styling is very horrible & also the makeup.

Sharp version but in medium size

These flowers are ridiculus but still I like this cover. It's something fresh. Something different. Soft make up will be better but Doutzen always looks great.

Good grief, it's the cover of a fashion magazine. Can we honestly tone down the faux horror and vitriol? This isn't the first time there's been a ugly tacky cover for Vogue. It's exhausting reading these HORRIFIED comments about the ugly covers in every Vogue topic. It's not like ugly Vogue covers are a new thing, not even close. I think people's expectations have become warped (god knows why) and now expect something more than these magazines were ever capable of producing. It's foolish to even DREAM of every single edition of Vogue having flawless Meisel-esque covers.

People expect and "DREAM" because (a) they WERE capable of producing STELLAR covers and content consistently [and here we ask "what happened?"] and in here I quote Creative

Really? Did you follow fashion magazines ten years ago? VJ included. It was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better.

Backtrack to Vogue Nippon covers and compare this to those. Having an ugly tacky cover is okay.. but to consistently have them month after month, year after year, then that becomes rather unacceptable and disappointing, right? and (b) because of the BUDGET they get [don't tell me VJ covers and editorials aren't well-budgeted].

This is a VJ Thread and not a VJ Appreciation thread - of course there will always be mixed opinions (whether they may passive or passionate). And as long as VJ consistently produces these kinds of covers then I guess you're bound to read more "vitriol" comments

P.S.: I don't criticize them because I dislike VJ. I criticize because I know they're capable and yet consistently fail to deliver.

P.P.S.: We don't dream of Vogue covers having flawless Meisel-esque covers because if you also back-read VI threads since 2010 (I think), people here have been reading Meisel's work to filth. All we want for Vogue franchises is to deliver. Nothing more, nothing less.

In other news, now I think I know who the inspiration was...

....Ms. Katya Zamolodchikova. The hair, the eye makeup...

Drag Race fans, woot!

YIKES....that styling!! Doutzen is so pretty but she can't even save this cover.

Yes, I expected her to make her comeback on UK, IT or VP.

BTW I think people in Japan might loves this cover because I know a few Japanese people and they said they really loved it .. they say people in Japan really love this kind of style

A British Vogue cover would be like reaching for the stars - they don't hand out covers like candy. Also, she's not on anybody's radar right now, I did not even notice that she was on a hiatus to begin with.

I do agree with you that the readers of this magazine will lap this up. Her last cover, a corny Hello Kitty style shot, was quite a hit for them.

Oooooh boy, if you think my post was endorsing these terrible magazines... well, you're wrong. Have you been following fashion magazines for the past 5 years and somehow missed the STEEP decline in quality we've been witnessing?

I guess I've simply accepted that most mainstream magazines, including most issues of most Vogues, aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

Just because these magazines had teams that were able to produce excellent issues 10 years ago, sure as hell doesn't mean they're capable of doing it now.

It's a bit ridiculous to expect a Michael Bay film to be good, so why are we expecting more from these magazines? Perhaps this is literally the best they can produce at this point, which is pretty pathetic OR they simply don't respect their audiences and, thus, don't care about producing an interesting issue. Either way, we've been around and seen these magazine decline. I think it's a bit silly to expect something from them that they can't or won't provide. But hey, if you want to get upset every month and act shocked their garbage issues, go ahead.

Vogue Japan is getting worse. That makeup and the flowers on the head... It looks like a bridal supplement cover, not Vogue.

 You are actually right.

Love Doutzen but What an ugly cover!!

Their editorials are always so much better than their covers imo.

All four edits looks very promising, especially the last one. I wonder what Jamie's story will be all about.
