I think there are two quotes in this magazine that are quite problematic regarding the overall point and possible future of Vogue Netherlands. Raissa Verhaeghe, general manager at Raf Simons says about Dutch design: "Sorry, don't have anything Dutch in my closet." And Inez & Vinoodh say in an interview: "The smartest thing we ever did was leave The Netherlands." Both are pretty awkward quotes for a first issue. I really hope they attract more international names or at least insert more international allure into the magazine.

 Extremely disconcerting, moreover just plain stupid of them.

I really want to pretend this issue didn't suck, but I can't...

The editorials were not well executed. I don't see a coherent vision for the first edition (the editorials were completely all over the place). I expected something a lot cleaner and sharper for Dutch Vogue, something more minimal without being too stripped down a la Cover magazine, as it still is Vogue. (This felt more like a bad edition of Vogue Russia).

And my god get out of the studio and shoot in your beautiful countryside! How many editorials have we seen with The Netherlands as a backdrop, it's right in your back yard and you're not using it? Be like Vogue Australia, Vogue France, and own your country pride and show off its characteristics. Otherwise, what is the point of your magazine?

The worrisome thing to me is they had all the time in the world to prepare this inaugural issue, and it fell flat. What will following issues with less time in between feel like?

Not all the eds have been posted yet, but it's amazing how they embody the Dutch mood I would think of in respect of the Netherlands.. Really great that another European Vogue is launched. I'm not so fond of the cover, however. It's a bit plain for a premiere issue, IMO. I wish Inez & Vinoodh would make a contribution to this issue soon. It would be fantastic.
