Vogue Paris June/July 2009 : Anja Rubik by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin

what a ridiculously gorgeous issues! i looooooooooove anja's edit..the shot of her on the bus is..

Guinevere & Eniko's editorial is so intense. I love it!

Anja is absolutely stunning

Eniko and Guinevere: i don't know what should i think about it.

Am I the only person who ABSO-effing-LUTELY LOVES this issue!?!?! I am JUMPING around my house in excitement. The cover isn't what I expected. It's BETTER! Yes, it is very pared down, but I adore the Fifties, coquettish styling. And Anja looks great- she is the perfect model for this look because she has that retro bobbysox girl appeal, but her hair adds an edge. The Daisy Dukes meets Dior New Look, plus the VERY ladylike scarf is SO modern, sexy and sophisticated! And the Fifties theme carries into the editorials greatly. I DIED when I saw Terry's edit. SOOOOOO perfect. I love the roller skates and the locations. And the styling is MAGNIFICENT. The best I have seen from Emmanuelle in MONTHS. In fact, this is the best editorial I have seen in VP in a very long time.

Sasha Pivovarova gives a modeling tour de force in her edit. The girl is a genius. Quite possibly the best editorial model working today. Such a chameleon. I love her in EVERY shot. From cute grin to full on sex goddess. Pure perfection. She reminds me of a 1950's Cannes movie star frolicking on the beach and posing for photographs- SOOO glamorous. Hers may be my favorite edit- next to Terry's.

The Sorrenti edit is very Klein/ Newton, as many people have mentioned, but it is still undeniably SULTRY and hott. When VP does unabashed sex, the results are always tantalizing. Just like in Lara's edit from February. This makes Klein's edit in this month's W look G-rated and laughable. Eniko and Guinevere make me sweat they are so steamy together. And Sorrenti did an excellent job photographing. Even if he is apparently copying Newton, he captures that ouevre VERY well!

The new girls edit is good, definitely not the best in this issue though. It is the quintessential David Sims black and white VP edit. But Sims' edits ALWAYS showcase the clothes so beautifully, and that is, to me, the point of a fashion editorial. There are no distractions or unnecessary props. Just pure fashion. Also, I am very impressed as to how Jac looks in print. She is actually a fanatastic editorial model. She looks better on the page than she does on the runway. I hope to see more of her in the future in VP!

I need this issue NOWWWWWWWW!!!!! It is definitely my favorite issue of VP this year. Hands down. What makes this issue so great is the variety Carine and company gave us. They concocted something so magical and fabulous by giving us a sample of a bit of everything: new models, sex, Fifties chic, beachy wear, glamour, innocence.. everything is there! Because it is meant to fill on for 2 months, the June/July issue should be a grand issue. And this DEFINITELY fits my definition of grand. Here's to hoping August is just as great!

Same here. ^_^
And Jac is much better than i thought.

I agree with Vinny, nice to see you here from those times we used to talk on style.com! This is way better than freckin Cannes even Karl didnt go there.

when i look at mario sorrenti's work i feel there's something much less pretentious about it, compared to steven klein's - i'm not an expert in photography, i just enjoy it, so my opinion comes from a lay point of view, but his work gives me the idea that he absolutely loves women, loves their body, whereas klein's work seems to be purely fetishistic/trying-to-shock sometimes. that self service fw 09/10 ed with raquel zimmermann, for example, was sublime... now while i like the wittiness of this ed and think eniko and guinevere are fantastic models, i'm not amazed. the idea of the 3rd shot is really good, but the execution disappoints me a little. still it seems to be a very nice issue overall.

It's kind of funny that they did an all Chanel issue in March and now they did a pretty apparent homage to the late 1940's, early-1950's Dior New Look. I actually love the themes and executions of both issues, but I hope that August isn't "Givenchy- Hubert to Riccardo" and Sasha is on the cover styled like Audrey Hepburn with a modern edge (actually that would be fabulous ). It would be a bit much for me, and so obvious. But my favorite aspect to VP is how each issue is loosely themed. It makes the effect THAT much better! I love the organization and continuous narrative! And nothing is better than two homages to the two most identifiably French landmark designers of the twentieth century.

ps everyone can go to Cannes no biggie, but it takes a lifetime & inborn talent to make work like Terry & Sorrenti just did!

YW my darling darling love Vinny!

I wouldn't mind, however, if they did an all Yves Saint Laurent issue. I was actually kind of hoping they would do one after his tragic death last year. In my opinion, his contributions to fashion are more apparent now than ever.

the chanel issue was, unfortunately, one of the worst issues of vogue paris imo. but now that you mentioned, a givenchy issue would be great... the idea of a model dressed as audrey hepburn is obvious indeed, but sasha could make it very interesting. although the first "ideal" cover image that came to my mind was paolo roversi's vogue uk shot of mariacarla sat on riccardo tisci's lap:shifty:

Ooh! Mariacarla would make a FANTASTIC Audrey as well ! Ana, you and I just came up with the next issue of VP !

Hopefully Carine and company conceive something MUCH more less predictable !

The sorrenti ed is very newton i lite the ed not the copy

Ok, the cover is very bland, remind me Christie's october cover, but the ed's on the other hand are spectacular. I love the touch of playfulness and eroticism in "A toutes jambes" and "Série noire", just a great issue!

I don't know what to think about the eniko and guinevere ed... indeed it's sexy and pretty strong, but don't really appreciate all the influence of it!! But The models choice is indeed Good!!!!

such a fantastic issue, love anja's ed and eniko with guinevere.. look i just found my avatar:rofl:
