It's giving nothing, to be fair.

They booked Shaira Luna, a photographer who's known for her colorful and dreamy works, and then made two basic black and white covers out of it.

The second cover with beauty queens is super amateurish. Fashion Canada did the same concept last month, but the difference is that they utilized it better than Vogue Philippines.

Like, they have five beauty queens, four of which are title-holders (and one is a product of nepotism who's yet to compete internationally. Props to the team, though, for having their first mom and daughter cover stars this month), wearing suits to establish women empowerment, yet the image itself looks like a pretentious yearbook group shot. I read some people's comments saying that 'Who Wears the Suit?' is a much stronger caption than the actual one, and I agree with them.

Regarding the first cover, someone on Instagram told me that it's literally us looking at Vogue's grave that Anna Wintour dug, and he's correct. It also looks like a POV of something that I can't discuss here.

From the words of @Bertrando3 in some threads lately, "Next!"

The coverline should be:

NOW WE LOST THE GAME

Because it's such a snoozefest & also like a farewell to a Vogue that was it's time ahead as an image maker and fashion bible. Now it's just the opposite.

ahaha I love this forum ahahaha. I totally agree, like what are they trying to sell here ? Empowerment of women or girls supporting each other? Nevertheless I see no point of view or real fashion vision here. I'm shocked because Vogue Philippines has been good and boring, they are starting, they should know or at least try to display a signature of their own.

Vogue Philippines needs a new Editor-in-Chief. For a country that prides itself with commercial covers, Vogue Philippines is a huge let down.

MEGA Magazine is still reigning supreme. Month after month MEGA delivers. It has the right amount of fashion and a whole lot of personality without feeling pretentious. This magazine is but an elevated indie magazine. Without the Vogue masthead, its nothing (lol, even with it).

These covers are a huge disappointment. These images are what I'd expect as the opening shot for the editorial or the teaser photo on the website, but not on the cover.

Does MEGA still print physical issue? or is it only digital now?

Vogue Philippines lacks
It still has a physical issue. They also have Mega Man Magazine

They should obliterate Mega and focus on Vogue because their current direction for the magazine is abysmal :vomiting:

I really don't get why Pia wasn't booked for this along with them, she's Miss Universe 2015. One of the most iconic crowning moments in pageant history. She should've been included. Maybe a scheduling issue, but the other girls along with her would've been more powerful.

I feel like the people still gravitate towards Mega because it mostly focuses on celebrities, that's why they can't really fold it. And it's a local magazine.

Vogue PH (besides it simply lacking at many things) just has that air of pretentiousness in it. Even the events feels like the magazine is only for middle class and up. Maybe that's their audience.

Apologies for the grammar.

The main cover with beauty queens does not look any better in print. In fact, it's worse. I don't think they chose the best shot from their cover shoot as Megan and Catriona's faces are blurry in the photo. The flip cover, starring The Filipinas, is quite better, though again, they could've showcased Shaira Luna's true aesthetic instead of doing black and white covers that don't correlate with their photographer's technique.

This issue tackles Wellness and Happiness throughout its pages which is contradictory to their sad and pretentious covers. With this edition being heavy on articles instead of editorials, this issue's stories are pertinent to their theme. I also like that they have a question-and-answer format in their cover story with beauty queens; it's a clever way of getting to know these women and their takes on the ever-evolving beauty standards.

Other editorials inside are very monotonous. It's like they hired Tyler Mitchell for four editorials and called it a day. It's illogical to have a depressing shoot with maximalist pieces. However, I'm very happy that Borgy Angeles's work is featured inside. His editorial is the obvious standout from this issue because it's different. Now if they can have him or Cenon Norial for their upcoming covers, that would be great!

At least they don't do reprints from other editions. It's easy to forget that this is a new Vogue that's only a year old. I'm enjoying seeing the process and look forward to the evolution. And I think their September issue was 400+ pages, which makes it the biggest (?) of any edition. I'm rooting for them!
