Vogue Thailand May 2015 : Sui He by Stockton Johnson

This is the first Vogue Thailand cover which I am not overfond of. Loathe the denim masthead. It looks like a preview cover, based on a UK Vogue editorial. I'm also keen to see what their Fashion Goes East feature will be all about. Just in January Khemanit's cover editorial featured modern takes on the Japanese obiage.

This looks like a UK Vogue More Dash Than Cash Supplement (in association with H&M )

The jeans masthead is so 2006! The styling feels so dated. The colors are too dark. Nothing here works. What a huge downgrade from last month's cover

Jeans, seriously? Do they know the magazine they are spawned from? The one who's title they have on their masthead? To paraphrase Anna Wintour, "Where's the glamour? This is VOGUE, let's lift it a little".

It does look like the h&m supplement for British Vogue indeed! Good for Sui but the cover does not have anything special, it looks very commercial and not high fashion though, so that bothers me since it´s part of the Vogue family.

Love the shot but not the denim masthead.

Agree. This does look like a shot from English Vogue's supplement editorial. There is nothing original about this magazine. They try hard to be English Vogue with their 2013 French Vogue font. Sadly, it ended up looking like a French Elle cover with that awful cheap styling. TBH I will not be surprised to see yet another Meisel-like editorial by Nat Prakobsantisuk in this issue.

They need to take risk. Get inspiration from somewhere else. Can't they do anything original at all or are they just plain lazy?

Happy for Sui He though :flower:

I'm just happy to see Sui again!!! :)

I was so excited to see Sui's name in the thread title and then I saw this catalogue looking shot. I am less bothered by the jeans and more bothered by the lack of creativity.

Thanks for all the uploads, AnemoneFish! Soo Joo's feature really stuns in terms of posing, styling and photography. Some of the shots reminds me of the early 90's Chinese & Japanese beauty trend - that red glossy eyes. In a perfect world any of her shots wouldve sufficed for the cover. Must congratulate VT for embracing the diverse skintones of their women in the other beauty edit as well, unlike Vogue India. Someone mentioned Prakobsatisuk's work looks awfully like Meisel's, I actually dont mind it. He's at least clever enough to incorporate elements of his own, unlike Alexei and Boo George who run identical facsimiles of Lindbergh's aesthetic. The weakest links in this issue are the two denim edits, both look like supplementary features in Elle or UK Vogue. There are no 'haute' denim. LV cannot make it cool, and the pieces they've selected looks more high street than anything. I get that they're trying to create buzz around denim, but must it look so pedestrian?
