My friends and I are starting a t-shirt line called Walter! (This post isn't an advertisement---We just wanted some feedback about the shirts.)

We are going to start a website as soon as we have enough shirts completed. Here is a close-up picture of our first shirt. Please tell me what you think!

to be honest it looks like a 5 year old made it but if the shape was well fitted it could be quite cheeky. If I had a niece or nephew and they gave it to me I would probably wear it but I'm not sure I would pay for it, but I think it greatly depends on the shape of the shirt.

Well,I would suggest that you should spend a bit more time with the handworking....it's very cute, but it's a bit small to me for such a simple t'shirt. Maybe experiment with the shape a bit too.

sorry I realized that my comments really weren't that constructive. I think it could also be quite cute if you put the image in unique places on the shirt (ie. the seam, a corner on the back) and I don't mind the hand stitching at all but I don't like the fabric fraying.

Thanks everyone for the comments

About the shape: What we do w/ classic cut t-shirts is sew along the sides (right under the armpit) to make a slimmer fit. Then as a result, the sleeves and the body are much longer in comparison than the average mini-sleeved style of t-shirt that is so common. It ends up looking really cool and unusual which will hopefully attract people to the shirts!

I just thought I'd give you a heads-up that there's already a designer out there marketing under the name Walter. Cat's name is Walter Baker and he designs some really cute women's suits.

I thought this topic was going to be about him.

yes but because this brand has an exclamation mark I don't think technically they are infringing on any rights ayli....maybe not?

do you have a pic of the shirt on a mannequin?

I'm going to ask my friend to model the shirt and i'll post that picture

I would try to be more inventive about the placement of the creature on the shirt. A centered composition is sort of a boring and a less obvious placement on the shirt would go better with the quirky and cute feeling I think you are going for. I would also work on your craft as meg said, I am not sure if it is quite something I would pay for. The idea however is great. It seems to need a bit more process and development. Try you push it as far as you can go!

I think the insect or whatever it is should look a little better it is rather sloppy right now and it's just sitting in the middle of the shirt it should be moved like someone stated earlier. I see that you are trying to create something different just tweak a few things and you will get it right.

Do you all think a little below the shoulder would be a good place (near the collarbone)?
Any other suggestions?

PS: More pictures of more shirts to come! It's hard to get the idea from one picture of one shirt!

Well,I don't think the placement is necessarily the problem....if the patchwork were bigger and was more emphasised with perhaps a bit of embroidery surrounding it,it would be a bit more interesting,I think.

i'm with as you like it...there is already a company with this name and you will have issues with that eventually...so i would re-think that...

^mmhmm I agree.. That's what I thought this thread was about. :flower:

Honestly?

It's alright. The little chicken or bird thing is VERY overexposed, it's so overexposed that Nordstrom has a few pieces similar to that.

Do something cool, like braiding, buckles or corsetry detailing on a t-shirt would be modern. I hate your fabric choices as well, they're ugly fabrics, don't go the Marc Jacobs "it's been loved" idea. What about a really refined chicken/bird but done in like patchwork that have a random look but create one clean picture?

Caroline, i like this little handstiched bird motif a lot,
they seem fresh for the EU market, love it

but do check the name rights before you go on,
good luck with your project :flower:

Well, honestly, I don't like that little bird at all...I couldn't even tell it was a bird actually. It seems to be pretty childish and not so very fresh for the EU market either. Go to your local cheap clothes store and you'll find it. I think that you should experiment with some more prints or beading or whatever, perhaps that will be better. I do hope so, because I always encourage initiatives like this, when exceeded correctly :flower:

The Name

As for the name: Any suggestions? My name is Caroline and my friends' names are Charlotte and Elizabeth.

One possibility is "paper shop" i think that's a good name. what do you think?
