And Quiet Flows the Don - Mikhail Sholokhov

As much as I love Russian literature...is there any which isn't bleak, grim and despairing? :ninja:

C'est la vie.

I can suggest Viktor Pelevin for amusement - he is the equivalent of Chuck Pahlanuik.

I am reading Swann's Way by Marcel Proust.

a book called 'the seven ages of paris'. an't remember the author but its very good. a history book basically but its easy to read. not a big fan of fiction - more of a fact girl myself!

yay for catch 22

I'm reading Paradise Lost by Milton right now

The In-Between World of Vikram Lall, by M.G. Vassanji.
It's for class, but I am enjoying it for itself too.

I'll take a look but for all my moaning about grim Russian literature I much prefer it to stuff like Pahlanuik. Thanks for the recc. though :flower:

The Divine Comedy- Dante (finally  )

My advice is to read the modern preface (if your copy has one) first - a lot of people say it dilutes the experience of some rubbish but personally I think it's like being thrown in at the deep end...
