What Are You Reading?

Have suddenly become obsessed with vampire books...but not the garbage teen romance ones (Twilight etc) or the even worse middle-aged titalation ones (Anita Blake etc). Proper well written books with intrigue and drama.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

Is there a TFS book club? I think we should start one if there isn't!

Could you recommend some?

I read the Twilight books and they were rubbish but somehow I still couldn't put them down. I'd gobble them up in a day or two over my winter vacation and then run out to buy the next one. Curious.

The best book I've ever read the deals with vampires is The Historian. It's one of the best books I've ever read.

The historian was really good.I loved it. I also thought twilight books were for teenagers but when i started reading them i got hooked and i felt like i was 16 again. They were my guilty pleasure i guess. Same happened with Fallen by Lauren Kate. Not high literature but made my 25 year old self feel like 15 again for sure. Guilty pleasure reading number 1.

Anyhow, still more vampire etc.. book recommendations, for adults?

Kinda OT, but I just noticed you live in Connecticut. I lived there until i was 12. It's definitely my favorite state.

the cover looked so bad i didn:t bother starting the book when i received it as a gift together with the other Millennium books.

cannot put it down. cannot wait to get to the end. am already devastated that the author has passed away.

Die Klavierspielerin / The Piano Teacher by Elfriede Jelinek
Kind of distressing, but in a good way.

i think the title is also off putting... i didn't have high hopes when i read it a while back, but then couldn't put it (or the subsequent books) down...

am also sad that the author passed away...
would have loved if there were more books in the series...
though three is also a good number...
i could see the themes getting old relatively quickly once the novelty wears off

**also, i would definitely echo those who mentioned the historian
it's a really great read and not your typical vampire book...

Uhh, Bram Stoker's Dracula? :p
That started it all, which is why I'm reading the graphic novelization of it

I was reading American Pastoral, but seeing that I'm transgressing my own rule (if you can't get through it, it's not worth reading), I'm giving it up after a month of picking it up and putting it down. On to Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison.

I am currently reading a book called "Chere Haute Couture" (original name) by Janie Samet. She is a famous French fashion journalist who knows everyone and been everywhere. I must confess the book is one of the most amazing I have read in my life, and I sincerely recommend it to everyone interested in la mode. :flower:

My revolutions, by Hari Kunzru. It's about a man who's been hiding his past as an activist and possible terrorist ... But his past and his present are now meeting and he has to find a way to deal with it.
It's a very good book, I already love it and can't wait to read something else by the same author !
