Brazilian Girl said:I think the difference between a straight-edge and other people who just lead a healthy life style is that
1. straight-edgers are into the punk rock/hardcore scene and
2. straight-edgers are usually proud of their life style, and promote it... ex.: the X on the hands and other sxe [means straight-edge] tatoos, t-shirts, whatever. They're more enthusiastic about it.
Actually I could, tecnically, be considered one...
but I don't know, I just fall into the category I guess... I like the whole sxe thing, but it's not like I thought "I think I'm gonna go straight-edge". I'm just a girl who doesn't smoke, drink, do drugs or have casual sex, who's a vegan and is into punk... But it's just me, it's not like I decided "I'm gonna do what it takes to be a sxe". Which I think is part of being sxe, you know, actually making the choice to be one, choosing to follow this way of thinking, and promoting it.

Also what really bothers me is that people read so much into it, like every action is either emo or it isn't. I was recently asked by a fellow class mate whether playing field hockey was emo. I was dumb-founded. Why whould such a thing even matter?
Emo is just turning into a dumb pop-culture pharse used to catergorize people into a certain norm. It's what you want it to be, its not a defintion from urbandictionary.com nor is it a white middle-class girl who cuts herself. It's whatever you make it.

I wish my grass was emo so it could cut itself
so wrong, but so right

WhiteLinen said:As a style, emo looks disgusting. I don't like the music either, and they seem quite ridiculous.
I think emo kids these days are mainstream.
